Default Agreed, this is hype...

It's the reverse of the "price drop so hold off!" strategy that competitors throw out there. FYI to anyone curious about getting a Wii. Test the motion controls. I found them to be slower than sloth and unresponsive when playing games that required timing and speed (such as Wiisports boxing). When I punch three times in 2 seconds, I'd like to see that reflected in my toon and the technology simply cannot do it. Nothing but frustrating in that sense. Good for drinking and party games, I suppose.

One of my co-workers said I could have his Wii for $150. He has two controllers and two games with it. As much as I've joked about them, Ill probably still get it.

The Wii sucks anyways. I have one and I hate it, besides RE:4.

Yeah RE:4 is pretty awesome on there, they have a bunch of good games, Mario and thats it. damn shame.

They are marketing it toward the elderly to fight arthritis and other crap. Pretty cool idea, but not for me

a shortage sounds funny to me, the ps3 and xbox are harder to manufacture and theres plenty of them to go around, so either the plant burned down or nintendo is full of it

Nintendo is full of it

They did the same thing 20 years ago. Intentionally suppressing supply when they've got a good thing going to keep themselves in the press and string it out as long as possible

Wii supply will suddenly jump if PS3 and 360 start pulling up on it

The Wii is selling much faster than both the 360 and PS3. Total sales for the Wii console have already passed the Xbox 360 install base and it took less than 1 year.

Edit: I think Nintendo has found the perfect supply/demand ratio and will continue with that curve. Why spend all that money ramping up manufacturing when doing so could jeopardize perceived demand?

For worldwide that is true. For the US the Wii was selling way faster, but it looks like the XBOX360 has passed it for sell rate recently. Looks like Nintendo has been letting them out at a rate of less than 100k per week and the XBOX360 has sold more than 100k per week (at least for a little while with the Halo 3 effect). So, it will be interesting to see what happens there.

Its all hype they are trying to stay in the news. They know most gamers
gave up on them so they need the nongamers and the only way to get
nongamers is the news. Why you think they did the the news about halo
being no big deal and same old same old the day after halo came out.

Two things to rember one sony has shiped almost as many PS3 as Wii's sold
and two Nintendo is like my last girl she will do ANY thing to be the center of
it all.

Wii is a fad anyway. It's good that it's selling, and nice to see nintendo still exsists. However the only future zelda I'm playing is HD zelda, and without waving a joystick in the air like a special olympics fly swatting competition.

Its gonna sell faster, but what happens when everyone has a wii, you get bored and even when new games come out, it might not push the person to DUST off the old wii can you even watch movies on it?

There has always been a shortage of them.

Actual gamers who were interested in the novelty and to get the next chapter of Mario/Zelda already have the Wii.
This Xmas, I can see the PS3 selling tons due to
#1- An actual decent games catalog this year
#2 - Price lowered
#3 - It includes a Blu-Ray player (again, that's viewed from a gamer's perspective)

Now, also viewed from a gamer, 360 vs PS3 is a quick comparison.
It's a Sports game console (and Halo) vs much more inovative/Next gen HD player / RPG / Action games for adult console.

I know that for me, if I were to buy a console this Xmas, the choice would be a quick one hehe.

That's exactly the thought that Nintendo's been milking. "Oh, I'm lucky, they have a Wii, I better buy it now before I can think it over and realize I'd rather have a non-gimmicky console."
