Default Pioneer Rep can't work it out - maybe you guys can (AMP issue)

Hey guys,

With quite a few blu-ray movies, my amplifier is sending the left channel of audio to the right and the right to the left. The sound is crossed

AMP - Pioneer VSX-LX60

Eg. Terminator salvation - REALLY obvious when the ship flies john connor over the ocean just before he dives into the water so the sub marine can pick him up - the plane does a fly-by the screen, left to right, but the speakers do the opposite.

Eg. 2 Inglorious Basterds - Super obvious when a door opens (just outside of the camera shot) on the left side of the screen, but all the sound comes out of the opposite side....

I have countless examples with other discs as well. I also noticed it in Band of Brothers, Top Gun and a couple others too - Some discs seem to be ok, but again, sometimes I can't tell... The Fifth element seems to work fine though...

Anyone know why this would be happening??? - and YES I have definitely checked the cable is plugged into the correct left and right speaker terminals at the back of the amp.

I am playing them through a 40GB PS3 - just a direct PCM stream signal into the amp with no THX settings, just direct sound.

Does this happen when you use the test tones?

MarkMash,

Forsberg is right, test tones would be the best place to start. That way you can narrow it down to the receiver or the sources.

First I would look to see if the speaker cables are to the correct speakers. I know that sounds simple, but it would be the easiest mistake.

Next I would try another HDMI cable. Maybe something is wired backwards. I have never heard of this, but I guess it could happen.

I never heard of this either, but that would really screw with my head watching something on the TV go from right to left but to hear it from left to right.......

Checking the speaker wires is a really good idea phansson.......

Hey I have made the mistake on my rear surrounds before and yes it was bizarre.

The speaker wires would honestly be the easiest mistake.

To the OP, from your viewing position, the speaker to the right of the screen is the R main speaker, speaker to the left of the screen is the L main speaker. I am not trying to be a smarta$$ or be infantile, but I have seen people make the mistake before.

I just read somewhere where the amp was labeled opposite. Granted, you do not HAVE to use the amp the way it was labeled, but it was odd that the left channel label was on the right side of the amp and vice versa. I am thinking it was a new Rotel 15 Series amp that is labeled this way.

BTW, I've wired an entire car stereo in the opposite way before. I think most of us have made that mistake at least once in their HT/audio life.

That was my first thought as well, that the left and right speaker connections were wired backward inside the receiver. I don't know how this could happen, but it seems the most logical explanation. I'm anxious to hear back from him as well. If he tries test tones and they're reversed then I would say that's definitely the case and he needs to swap the wiring around to fix the problem.

If this is the case and he just bought it, I would take it right back and get a new one. I would not settle with wiring my speakers in reverse just because they made a mistake in manufacturing it. On the other hand, if warranty is up, it should be an easy fix.
