I know what they are about, just haven't seen them. Mogera from Mysterians was brought back in Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla and the Gotengo from Atragon was brought back for Godzilla: Final Wars. There's also an Atragon anime show if I remember correctly.

Godzilla X Megaguirus (or translated on Google Translate is Godzilla vs. Meganulon) is actually a pretty good movie, isn't that the one with the hundreds of giant bugs with wings climbing the buildings and attacking Godzilla on an island? If so, it's very good. Good battles as well.

That'd be the one. I have the Hong Kong Region 3 DVD of it. I saw the Sony DVD and it was covered in print damage. Hairs, specks, and dirt were all over those reels. I was shocked when I saw it.

Mysterians and Atragon. Both on DVD in the US by Media Blasters/Tokyo Shock. I haven't seen them so I cannot comment on how good they are.
They're both fantastic releases. The picture and audio is pretty darn good. And best of all the audio commentaries have been translated with english subs!

Okay, so I checked them out.

Pretty much the same story as the last wave. They looked good, but not great. Some parts looked better than others.

It was cool seeing G 1984 for the first time since I saw it theatrically in 1985. I never knew the Ghostbusters logo made an appearance.

G fans should be happy with them.

Here's a review of GMK from Dr. Kain over at HDD.....

Quote:
Video - 3/5:

I have to say, I am a bit disappointed with the video. It is definitely a considerable upgrade over the DVD Sony had released in the States a few years ago, but most of the scenes that do not feature the monsters look just a tad better (if at all) to the Region 2 DVD Toho released in 2002. Sure, the details are much sharper during the monster battles, especially towards the end of the movie, but the day time scenes are hardly any better. I am not sure why, maybe it was how it was filmed, but being that this is my favorite Godzilla movie of all time, I was expecting it to look just as sharp as Star Trek or The Dark Knight. Instead, I am a bit disappointed. However, that by no means this is not worth the upgrade, as it still is, just not as much as I had hoped.

Audio - 5/5:

Now we are talking. The audio is just simply incredible, as there are always things coming out of each speaker. Dialog is very clear and rich, with a heavy use of the subwoover every time a monster stomps, roars, growls, etc. In fact, the scene when Godzilla uses his breath that creates the mushroom cloud the teacher sees felt like the entire apartment shook. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the dialog at all, as no matter what, you hear the dialog right through anything that is happening on screen.

Extras - 5/5:

Everything from the original Region 2 3 disc DVD set has been ported over, with the highlights of the features being the two hour long making of feature.

NOTE: The extras once again cannot be accessed on the Samsung 3600. I have no idea why not, and why the firmware update a few weeks ago has not fixed this issue, but this player is really starting to get on my nerves. It won't play the extras on these discs, the player cannot play Up and Monster's Inc without constantly freezing, and some movies won't even load at all on it.

Overall:

While the video quality is not what I expected it to be, it is far from bad, however, it is the audio here that truly steals the show, and anyone who loves this movie owes it to themselves to pick up such a fantastic release. The audio will not disappoint anyway, except your neighbors because they will have no rest for the 103 minutes this movie plays through. Enjoy it, show it to you friends, and then watch it again.

Has anyone taken a look at the special features on the fourth wave of tokusatsu blu-rays from Toho? It seems like this series each as a special feature titled "SF Encyclopedia Tokusatsu Toho University". It seems to be that the Showa releases from here on out may have this. While adding some uniformity to the series, each installment is dedicated to the film it is with. Interesting... Plus I think for the first time some Champion Matsuri is being released on these discs - which the last time I checked the C.M. edits of some kaiju films were released only on LD...

Has anyone check out the page for the blu-rays? They updated some of them with pics form the new special features:

http://www.toho-a-park.com/tokusatsu-bd/monokuro.html
http://www.toho-a-park.com/tokusatsu-bd/radon.html
http://www.toho-a-park.com/tokusatsu...zilla1984.html
http://www.toho-a-park.com/tokusatsu...gghidorah.html
http://www.toho-a-park.com/tokusatsu...goukantai.html

Not only that, but the stats for the third wave's Heisei releases have been updated. It seems like all the Heisei releases are going to have the same "new" special feature: shows exactly where in Japan the kaiju go through. Something simular was done for the Cloverfield blu-ray...

Does anyone know why the second wave of titles is not posted on the Blu-ray.com database? I've probably posted three times for this to be added. The first and third wave were added, but not the second.

Not sure, I posted about them twice. Same with the 3 newest Gamera films.

And because Toho doesn't want people importing them, they never will.

Forgive my bluntness, but what kind of idiot would expect Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack to have the same caliber video as The Dark Knight or Star Trek? The Dark Knight had a budget of $185 million and Star Trek had a budget of $140 million. Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack had a budget of roughly $11 million.

Anyway...

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait for King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974), or King Kong Escapes to be announced. My nostalgia levels for those films are off-the-charts. KKvG would be especially cool, as I've never seen the original Japanese version.

I agree. Hopefully they're announced in one of the next waves.

Be prepared for a world of disappointment with King Kong vs Godzilla... alot of their original elements didn't make it, so there's alot of upscaled composite video mixed in with what they had available to remaster in HD. There was much pissing and moaning from the japanese after the new HD transfer aired in Japan on one of their premium channels. If/when Universal gets around to releasing the US version, it will likely look far superior to the japanese version.

Going by the R2 DVDs, King Kong Escapes should be in pretty good shape, though... as well as Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla '74 (my personal favorite).

Oh, yes. I have the Thai DVD which is sourced from the Japanese R2 DVD, which has the 30th anniversary title card before the Toho logo pops up. It's freakin' atrocious on all levels. The US DVD by Universal just pisses all over the Japanese version in every way. And oddly Universal owns like pretty much all worldwide rights except for like the Asian countries for the film.
