Just wondered if anyone else bought this on Blu. I got it in a 2 for £17 deal as it's one of my favourite Christmas films. I don't know quite what to make of this Blu-ray. The PQ is notably sharper than the standard DVD, but I can't help but think that generally it's not too much better than watching an upscaled DVD. There is a bit of grain, although it's not very noticeable if I sit far away from my screen (which is a 32" 1080p screen). The audio is fine too, but I don't believe the pitch has been changed from the DVD at all. Like all Blu-rays, it doesn't suffer PAL speedup, songs from the film such as Wherever You Will Go by The Calling and Smooth by Santana sound exactly like they do on the studio albums, but maybe the DVD didn't suffer from it either. I no longer have the DVD so I can't compare the two, but I really didn't notice any difference in the sound pitch.
Overall it's not the worst Blu-ray transfer but it's certainly not an outstanding one. But maybe Love Actually is the sort of film where that doesn't matter too much. |

I noticed the quality of blu-ray back when I had a 32'' but since have upgraded to a 42'' and can only say the quality is easier to notice on a bigger screen, I didn't really find it hard to tell from Blu-Ray or DVD with the 32'' but I see why some might.
I don't own it, but can only say from the review that PQ looks great and AQ is 5.1 DTS-HD. |

I also picked up the North American version of this film and watched it last night. Love the film to death, and it's been a recent tradition to watch this during the holidays.
However, I was completely surprised by the "porno" scenes. The previous version I had on DVD never had those scenes!? Can anyone else confirm that these porno scenes are in fact from the theatrical release? It was bizarre to watch a film I had seen a dozen times, to find something new, and rather unnecessary as well. They should have left those scenes out in my opinion. Anyways, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Blu-ray forum! |

Personally I think for the story they are necessary and therefore I put up with them although I'd rather not see sex in front of me ![]() ![]() |
