So did I. I saw it is as the most affordable and most likely upgradeable piece of hardware for future profiles. People have been obsessed with the fact that PS3 is a gaming console. Sure it is but the PS3 utilizes Blu-ray technology. I consider my PS3 a standalone Blu-ray entertainment player sitting on my shelf. Not a PS3 gaming system since I hardly, if at all, play games.

Less than half still outnumbers HD-DVD boxes by a factor of 5:1. How can anyone ignore that?

How can anyone say the PS3 doesn't matter?

Picture quality and audio quality are primary. The fact that most HD-DVD's do not have lossless audio is a major problem for me. HD-DVD is less than two years old and already PQ and AQ are being compromised due to bandwidth and storage limitations.

I bought my PS3 exclusively to play movies. I will never use it for games.

I simply do not understand how any sane, reasonable, and informed person could possibly genuinely prefer HD DVD. It simply makes no sense.

from the article

Quote:
For people who buy HDTVs, the intent is not to interact with it—it’s so they can have high-definition viewing,” said Andy Parsons, senior VP at Pioneer Electronics and chair of the Blu-ray Disc Assn.’s U.S. Promotion Committee. “Interactivity is nice, but it’s not causing people to say I won’t watch the movie
this is so true...since most of the special features are SD...but in the future on BD...most special features will be HD....they gonna make use of that 50gigs in those 2 disc edition e.g POTC AWE

My guess is the many HD-DVD people adopted the format early and invested a lot of money into it. They fight tooth and nail to protect their choice.

I own a PS3 and yes, was planning on buying an HD-DVD player this fall but rumors of the tl51 not being read by current players put a stop to that.

I hope Blue Ray has a great 4th quarter and this HDM format "war" is decided soon by the Studios. Will do my part in buying as many BR movies as I can since I am not buying an HD-DVD player anytime soon (Use the money I set aside for HD-DVD to buy BR )

Andy Parsons is a very smart guy, much smarter than those HD DVD hacks.

Extras are exactly that, extra to the main feature, not the actual reason you buy the disc.

I guess that must be the explanation. Sad.

I've said this since the beginning as well. They want to have it both ways. Here is the process when using fuzzy "idiot" math:

1 - The attach rate for blu-ray is x ("x" being some low number when PS3 is included), which clearly suggests that PS3 owners are not watching movies.

2 - Since "1" is true, you can ignore PS3 sales and therefore acknowledge that HD-DVD sells more players.

They never quite realize that if 1 & 2 were both true, which is required to buy their argument, that their media sales would be 2:1 instead of the reverse.

Hold on a second. Parsons may not be the smarter guy at all... hear me out folks!

Parsons is the guy with the easy job... he can simply use logic and say things that reflect reality. The HD-DVD talking heads have the much harder job. They have to fabricate plausible sounding spin that will obscure Andy's reality. They have to find some reasonable story to defend the decisions of their bosses who decided to take the money and run. So far plenty of bystanders out there are confused. Who's the smart guy?

It's easy for me to tell you that eating a slice of Ray's Famous pizza is better than eating feces from your dog's rear. But if my debate opponent can convince 40% of people that they should Fido's poop... he's a pretty good debater.

At 250,000 sales, doesn't this mean 300 has sold more copies on Blu-Ray than HD-DVD has sold players?

Yep, and until they get some good documentaries in HIGH DEFINITION on these discs, I really don't care much about extras. It so "jarring" to watch the movie in pristine 1080P, and then check out the extras in standard def. My eyes hurt when that happens!!! And I usually wind up only making it 5 minutes into the extras as a result...

"Warner Home Video’s 300 HD DVD title, one of the first releases to offer Web-based interactivity, sold half as many copies as the 300 Blu-ray version, which lacked those advanced features. Also, Warner VP of high-def marketing Dan Silverburg primarily credits PS3 users for what the studio believes is an impressive quarter of a million units sold of 300 on Blu-ray."

Toshiba can't possibly ignore the PS3 factor anymore dammit! Especially since is coming straight from Warner's mouth.

Toshiba can do whatever they want. Until their shareholders start getting POed about giveaways of $500 players, etc...

It's nice to see Warner making pro-BD comments though

I laugh every time I see something like this. If there's one thing middle-aged high level corporate executives know...it's what "younger folks" want. LOL

'On a revenue basis, next-gen players carved out a 27% share of the overall market during the month of August.'

How much of that 27% do you suppose is Blu-ray players?

I still say Viacom made the right choice. Transformers isn't the kind of movie that would have attracted PS3 owners.

I actually think its the complete opposite, I would've bought it if it would've came out.
