Thumbs up Which movie will reign supreme at the box office this weekend?

Avatar is coming off a great start and has positive "word of mouth" going for it. The younger kids(dragging their parents) will choose Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Sequel. In addition, the star power of Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law will be an attractive draw as well. Avatar will be playing in 3,452 theaters, of which 2,023 were 3D runs. Alvin and The Chipmunks 2 will open in 3,700 theaters, and Sherlock Holmes will debut in 3,600. Also opening this week: It's complicated (2,800 theaters), Up in the Air (1,800 theaters), and Nine (1,500) theaters.

Don't count Alvin out. The first installment pulled over $44 million in its opening weekend.

It's going to be very close between Avatar and Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Sequel, but I think Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Sequel will take it by a nose.

Sherlock Holmes takes the weekend.

Avatar slips to second.

Chipmunks take third.

Both will see a sharper decrease in their second weeks than Avatar will though imo.

I personally want to see Sherlock Holmes but I think it will be a toss up between Alvin (for the kiddies) and Avatar considering the great word of mouth.

Sherlock will take 1st while Alvin takes second and Avatar goes to 3rd unless one of the other movies does good and Avatar drops lower.

Sherlock will take a big chunk out of Avatar this weekend and come in first. Avatar will gross the most of the holiday movies though. Not so sure about the positive word of mouth though for Avatar...I have almost just as many people I know say they did not care for it as those that said they did. I will find out for myself tomorrow night!

The topic creator is bias! He used movie posters for all of the films except "Avatar"! And he didn't put them in alphabetical order! And "Avatar" has the largest image! And he incorrectly identified the second "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie as "The Sequel" when we all know it's "The Squeakquel."

BIAS!

But I made my vote :P

You can tell that from just his signature....it use to be Star Trek.

But I just have this feeling that I am going to like Holmes better.

I think so, too. I'm only playing around anyway.

And he must hate "Up In the Air" cause there's no image for it at all!

Of course it is. The poll was made so the Avatar fans can once again talk about how good they think the movie will do and how they think it's the most epic thing ever. When the movie was pretty bad with it's no plot and 1D characters. Their is a reason Avatar has like what 5 threads all talking about the same damn movie.

Yes it was a joke on my part! In fact I can't wait to see "Up in the Air"....that might just be your best picture winner.

I think people are way overlooking Nine. It has an all star cast and if it does as well as Chicago or Moulin Rouge that will take quite abit of box office draw. It's a musical based on Fellini's 8 1/2 so it has a wonderful story to work from....not sure as a musical though.

Avatar first. Alvin and the chipmonks should come in 2nd place. Don't forget all those kids and at least one adult ticket purchased. SH in 3rd.
