The biggest issue for me is the price. The most ill ever pay for a BD is $29.99 (ok maybe $34.99 in RARE cases). Still at those prices ill buy few, until they get to $24.99 or lower on average.

I dont see how Id ever spend $39.99 on a movie. Ever.

Jackie Chan movies are the only movies that I want extras on. Love the pain clips

Me and a friend recently watched red dawn.
We remembered how awesome it was when we were kids.
If none of you have seen it in a while I have a warning for you.
IT IS AWFUL!!!!
We almost stopped watching it.
How in the hell did I ever like this movie?

You don't pay the MSRP most of the time anyway .

Josh, I agree.... Sometimes the extras spoile the movie for me in the case of Hannibal. When I saw how fake the baby was in the shoot out scene now that's all I see is that fake baby. Looked pretty real to me up to that point...

I'm going to eat my words here and agree with you.

For some movies, extras are a must (read: Lord of the Rings, Alien films, Matrix trilogy, you see the pattern here!), but for many, I'm not in agreement. I watch the film and I'm done. Little interest in extras for majority of movies -- especially with how gimmicky extras have become.

I'll buy Red Dawn. It's a silly movie, but a guilty pleasure all the same. Kind of like Fifth Element. It's just enjoyable to watch, silly story and all.

Extras never mattered all that much to me either, though as others had said, with some of the bigger movies maybe.
I'm certainly not that interested in extras for Red Dawn, though I'm a little disappointed that Robocop has none either.

I care about extras but only on certain films. Like Close Encounters, it's nice to see they have a second disc for the extras. A movie like Red Dawn, it would have been nice to see interviews with the cast now. But I think for something without extras and that is as old as this film is(the transfer may or may not be good) a full list price MSRP is a little much.

And this is the point that most in this thread are missing. I'd be much less upset if I wasn't paying through the nose for a bare-bones disc. I'll gladly pay more for the "Superbad" 2-disc set, because it's loaded with extras. But paying nearly 30 bucks even at Amazon for just a movie is a rip-off.

I only bought one Fox title in 2006 ("Kingdom of Heaven: DC") because I considered the movie essential, but I still held onto my 4-disc DVD. I eventually went with some others when the 50% off sale kicked off, but only because I was getting them for less than $20. If a similar sale hits I might pick this up, but until then it stays out of the shopping cart.

I don't really care if older movies like Red Dawn don't have any extras. I do prefer that newer movies include them even if I rarely bother to watch them. Not sure why, but I'll almost always buy a special edition (collector edition, whatever) even if I never look at any of the extras. In general though, I echo the sentiment of others in this thread and just care about the movie.

I am saying I don't care much for extras not becuase of any issues our Blu format might have. I honestly hardly ever watched them on most of my SD DVDs. Same old, same old "The making of ...", Deleted Scenes, Commentaries ... I found most of them pretty dull. How many times do you want to see an actor suspended on a couple of ropes in front of a blue screen, and then the magic touch of the artist turns the blue background into a miraculous scenery ...
I can only think of a couple of discs when I actually wanted to check if there were any interesting extras - that happened primarily if the movie itself was so impressive, that after it was over I felt I wanted to see some more of that.
Not once I felt like turning on a PiP .... no, thank you.

why did this become a Red Dawn thread when it started out as Rescue Dawn? that said...extras on Rescue Dawn would be pretty nice, but if they're not there it's not gonna stop me from buying it

About the only "extras" I watch are the previews.
