Default WTF MGM? "Rescue Dawn" w/no extras @ $39.99 MSRP

I really thought Fox had changed since the bare-bones releases of 2006. Indeed, their recent releases have included at least some extras, if not the same as the DVD versions. That gave me some hope for the MGM titles that they had picked up. Okay, so "Robocop" came barebones, but I figured they were just slacking on a decade-plus-old catalog title. But now "Rescue Dawn", an amazing film from this year is also coming without extras. Really, if any film cried out for extras, this is it, seeing as how the historical basis of the film has already been the subject of a documentary.

Wake the **** up, MGM and Fox.

As a person who couldn't care less about extras, it doesn't phase me in the least bit. I watch the movie and that's all.

It is that big of a deal. The biggest special feature is the blu-ray exclusivity. I have only watched features on Apocalypto and Dawn of the Dead, and mostly because I had nothing better to do.

Rule #1: DO NOT EVER BAD MOUTH A BLU-RAY EXCLUSIVE STUDIO.

Same here. Couldn't care less. I'd rather spend 27 bucks on a good PQ/AQ release than 23 for a so-so release with a lot of extras.

Erm, do you mean Red Dawn, the Patrick Swayze movie from 1984?

Because that was officially announced today with no extras, but I haven't seen anything on Rescue Dawn today.

I agree.

I might watch the extras once, but they're not necessary to me.

Obviously not everyone has seen Robocop. Meh PQ, no extras.

I wish people would stop with the "no one wants extras". Many do, including me.

Already got bit with Robocrap, they wont get my money on Red Dawn. Full MSRP for a title I know will have Robocop PQ, and no extras? gimme a break.

Yeah, I think there is some confusion. The only annoucement I've seen today is the Red Dawn annoucement (the movie from 1984) and yeah, it doesn't include any extras. As far as I can tell, they haven't announced anything (as far as extras) on Rescue Dawn yet.

I don't think Robocop is going to look much better than it does, even with a new encode. I don't really know what people expected, it's an old movie with a lot of matte work that, if I'm correct, was shot on a relatively low budget for a film of that type.

Nah, dude, I know all about it, but as far as I know, they haven't announced any of the specs or details on Rescue Dawn, but today, they revealed the lack of features for Red Dawn and I think that's where this thread is coming from. I think the OP just got them mixed up.

Just an FYI from one person to another - you might want to refrain from the vulgarity there. Otherwise some of our priveliges will be revoked permanently from what I hear. We don't want that do we?

Since I dont ever watch special features, I dont care if a movie has them or not. BUT I do agree that charging $39.99 is way too much, especially for a movie that has no extras.

Extra's are just that, something extra which for me has no relevance in my buying decision. First is the quality of the film followed by PQ and AQ (of which I rate as equally important).

I'm beginning to think that this is an MGM mandate and not a Fox one. While Fox has distribution rights, I believe MGM still runs their own home video department. With 50 gigs (should they choose to use it), and more than enough bandwidth, there is no reason not to include all the features on a Blu-Ray release, ESPECIALLY one with a 39.99 MSRP.

Also, paying this type of price could send a message to every other Blu-Ray studio that charges a 29.99 MSRP for their catalog titles that 39.99 is a-okay, so why not bump up that profit margin?

Extras are nice to have, but if a film doesn't have them I am ok with it. I still don't need to hear about how tough it was for a millionaire to get ready to make a movie.
