Default Question about bi-amping and 7.1

at the moment im just using 2 front speakers out of my receiver. i just bi-amped them to the receiver. my onkyo manual says to put one set into the rear speaker inputs and they other into the regular ones i did this.

now for the question, when i buy my side speakers, center, and sub will i have a 7.1 system with just the 5 speakers (2 front ones bi-amped) and the sub or will it still be 5.1 even though they are bi-amped.

thx

Just 5.1. Bi-amping means that the signal is split into two by a crossover switch, enabling the low frequency end to be indepently amped from the high-to-mid frequency. The fronts are still a pair of speakers. Adding center, surround and sub speakers will not create 7.1.

Correct.

Basically what the receiver is doing now when you enabled bi-amping is that it is taking the amplifier for the surround back and use it to drive the woofer (low frequency) of your front speakers.

When you got a full 7.1 speaker set, you have to disable bi-amping on your receiver in order to experience 7.1.
