Dude seriously, the black bars on the sides surprised you that much? It's hardly the first blu-ray ever to get a 4.3 transfer with black bars on the sides. Still think it was a phenomenal transfer, all things considered.

12 Angry Men was shot 1.66:1. So yes, it'll have slight bars on the sides, but not like Oz.

The detail of Gone With the Wind was much better in a lot of shots, but I'm still very pleased with Wizard of Oz. Both look great!

DVDbeaver has some interesting screenshot comparisons!
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare/wizard.htm

And they couldn’t even place a true original monaural soundtrack on the Bluray wow what waste of money! I’d think I’ll keep my region 2 DVD, no thanks not interested in this one for the silly price! If it was £5.00 pounds I’d consider it.

"Purists can also opt for an optional Music-Effects-Only or original Mono track."

Aspect ratio has nothing to do with HD quality.

Part of the Foley effects don’t even have any sound on some parts where switching to one of the foreign language tracks BINGO! I don’t even want to hear what film-mixer excuse for this I don’t want to hear it!

The more things change. The more they stay the same.

Movies made before the mid Fifties are not Widescreen. (TV programs made in the 20th century too). Got Them!!

I worked as projectionist in the past and its one thing that automatically comes to mind. (Academy ratio) square tiny centred of the screen.

This is not true at all as both Family Guy and American Dad are 1.33:1 HD. As stated before the bars are not an indicator of SD or HD.

Wait until you realize Steven Soberbergh's intended aspect ratio for the 2006 film The Good German was 1.33:1!
