I know this is a bluray and the PQ seems to look good but is it true that the black lines come down the side thw whole movie?? if so that sucks to me! Anyone have this or know this? Thanks! Got Em!!

Aspect Ratio is 1.37:1, so the black bars on the sides of your hdtv are normal.

OAR = Original Aspect Ratio. Or, if you want to have a lil fun: Obligatory Arse Ram ('errr wat mate?)

There are quite a few other blu-ray's like that CZAR.

Wizard of Oz isnt widescreen hence the black bars on the sides, if it was widescreen you would have the bars on top and bottom

Anything that was filmed in the academy ratio (or 1.33:1) will have the "black bars" on the side CZAR.

For example, the Justice League cartoon was animated in 4:3 and is like that on the blu-ray.

Also, the original Day the Earth Stood Still.

I despise fullscreen, when something was filmed in wide (1.78 and up). But if it is filmed in full screen, then I don't have a problem with it.

Most films around that time were shot in 1.37, have you seen GWTW? Same thing, it's the OAR so you'll get the black bars. Best way to view a film imo, so you're getting the best product CZAR!

As for North by Northwest, that was in 1959, a lot had changed by then and more and more films were being shot in 1.78/1.85

Can't speak on that one's original aspect ratio. The blu-ray is either 1.78 or 1.85 though.

Edit: IMDB says that one is 1.85 originally, also it is 1959, much more films were being shot in scope by then.

Well TV's nowadays were made for 1.78/1.85 so the films would fill the screen. So it's not that people don't want the OAR, it would just be extra sweet if all movies filled our screens.

Every movie made before 1953 will have the "black lines"... that's the aspect ratio in which movies used to be shot.

If 12 Angry Men ever makes its way to Blu-ray, it'll have these bars at the sides.
