France Ever been to Paris?? Need a hotel!

I'm taking a trip to Paris in March and just wondering if any of you ever visited and where did you stay? I'm looking for a hotel for me and my girlfriend, somewhere central, and reasonably priced

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you don't mind chains, the Hotel Ibis chain is affordable and they have tons of locations.
Not "luxe" by any stretch, and rather devoid of any "French Flair" (it's a chain)but very practical and familiar. About equiv. to a BestWestern in accomodations and price I think (Count between 100 to 150euros/ night, you can also find Best Westerns in Paris in fact).
http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/reservat...el-paris.shtml
Most chains in france are the equivalent of ** hotels (see the end).

Better prices can generally be found at the "Etap Hotels":
http://www.etaphotel.com/gb/reservat...e_hotels.shtml

Not actually located -inside- Paris, but one of the best price around seem to be:
fasthotel.com

For non chains, this might be a good tool:
http://fr.lookotel.com/france_ile%20...Pas+Cher+Paris

don't forget to check online prices, and the specialized travelling websites like Travelocity or Expedia for deals.

To be noted: most hotels in France might not include in their online price that their is a "local tax" to be included in the daily room price. This tax can amount (if memory serves) up to 2E/ day.
There is a "star" clasification in France, slightly different from the one in the US, which is overseen by the ministery of tourism (national classification).
No star: very minimal accomodations/ generally not reviewed (those have all but disappeared, or more the "familly type")
*: Moderate Comfort Hotel, with minimal accomodations. Probably a shower available at best. (might not have a toilet in the room). Clean.
**: good comfort. Shower at the very least (but probably a bathtub), TV, decent bed and clean.
***: superior Comfort. Full bathroom accomodations, quality Beds, TV, satellite, on demand service, etc.
****: Resort type accomodations.
****L: Palace type

A couple of years ago, I was in Paris for about a week and stayed here:

I was really happy with it. It's pretty close to the Eiffel Tower so I was always able to use the Tower as a guide to get back to the hotel. Enjoy your trip.

I stayed at a Hilton when I in Paris. I totally do not remember how much it costs though. I loved Paris. One thing I didn't get to do was go to the cinema and watch a film dubbed in French. I wish I did.

Elandyll, sorry for the delay in responding.. Many thanks for the info which, as silversnake said, is great info!! Much appreciated Thanks for taking the time out!

Does anyone use tripadvisor.com? It can be great, but also annoying! You see a place you think is perfect.. Log on to Trip Advisor.. Then you read that it was either excellent or infested with rats! You don’t know what to believe!

Dr.Zoidberg, I see you use Trip Adivsor.. Thanks for the link, I will check it out! Nice view of the tower from your room?

The very mention of the Hilton sound expensive Orlando! Will check it out anyway

I still have plenty of time, but it is a surprise so don’t want to bring her any where too shaby!

A great website is called http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

The prices are usually much cheaper than you would find elsewhere. The only "downside" is that it's non refundable most of the time so if you change your mind, you won't get your money back. My dad uses it all the time and usually has gotten 50 - 150$ + off normal prices.

I don't think the website is in English so if you need any help let me know and I can help you out.
