Default Question For Original Steelbook Collectors...

Just thought of this and i have to ask, Unfortunately for me all the mega rare steelbooks such as FS Iron Man, FS I Am Legend and Amazon John Rambo came out before i knew very much about steelbooks.

Anyway onto the question, For those that were here at the start and bought these at retail price did anyone notice any tell tale signs or have any feelings that this was going to be a rare one?

Just something that popped into my head and thought would be quite interesting to know

Craig

I didn't start collecting SBs for value and still remember the first one I bought from Xploited which was Sweeney Todd. When it arrived in the mail, I thought this was a neat collectible and then started to buy them. IAL FS was difficult to get (only got 1) since there weren't as many people helping out as there are now but once Iron Man rolled around, I bought 5 of them for a reason I can't seem to remember now. Ended up selling 3 of them and keeping 2. After that, I mostly stuck to buying 1 or 2 copies depending if I liked the artwork or thought there was a chance it would be valuable.

Never thought steelbooks would explode into the demand they are today. If only I had kept them.
But hey, can't look at life like that right? People are telling the same violin story about some stock they should have bought or sold, or some rental property in Palm Springs they could have turned over.

Tis life.

Even Iron Man wasn't selling for high price in the first six months.

To the OP I bought Iron Man on release date and felt in love with SBs but I had no ideas it would become such a gem, if I knew I would have bought a lot.
John Rambo didn't sell well at the beggining and people didn't want to import it since it was region B locked.

It's really hard to predict which one will soar but if you mass buy a SB and it gets OOP you wait and someday it will pay off, except for Watchmen.

Cheers,
Gui.

i think hurt locker is experiencing the sleeping beauty effect. people are going crazy for it right now thinking it will be rare and desireable. but in reality, interest will go down soon.

At least Sleeping Beauty should be hard to find in a year or so and will be sought after again. What if the Hurt Locker doesn't win any academy awards?
Disney will remain Disney.
I think I'll be forever stucked with my FaF 1-4 DVD sized SB from UK.

Nope, I had no idea that some would be so rare. My first SB was Iron Man from Canada, after I got that one I was hooked!

I started googling BD SB's and I came across this Beautiful site and now I have a few rare ones in my SB collection.

What about Les Animaux Amoureux, Ushuaïa Nature or Survivre avec les Loups? (they look great but the movie sucked.)

But I have to agree with you AK.com is the ugliest steelbook ever!
Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob looks awfull too.

A Turd is a Turd. You can polish it, sprinkle it with gems and plop it into a lovely Steel casing, but its still a stinking festering pile of Turd.

I bought IAL when it first arrived at FS. I liked the idea that the SB cover was different than the amray version. I recall that the HD and BD versions came out around the same time. I ended up buying all three versions of them.

Being a comic collector, I thought that the SB version would be like the Variant covers for some comics - ie 1 variant cover for every 20 regular covers. I only bought the ones that I thought were nice looking for my eyes.

Only recently have I added imported SBs to my collection based on the way they look, not the so called rarities.
