PS3 Blu-ray vs. Blu-ray player - Blu-ray Forum

I'm just curious to know what the difference is between the Blu-ray that comes with the PS3 and a high-end player, if anything at all. Any feedback will be helpful, thanks.

Probably the biggest difference up front would be the price. I think most people enjoy the PS3 for gaming, but also because it is an inexpensive and upgradeable Blu-Ray player. My understanding is that it will be one of the few current players that will be able to do PIP with a firmware update.

Did you have any particular high-end model in mind when you asked this question?

I don't have a specific brand or model, but say the most expensive Blu-ray player. What would be the differences spec wise of the PS3 Blu-ray and the most expensive model on the market. I ask because I know not all DVD players were the same, so I'm guessing not all Blu-ray players are the same.

Ps3 is topp's when it comes to BLU-RAY players,panisonic is rite there with it but there diff because the Ps3 has no front display or "anolog outs" ,but its upgrade-ability surr pass everything,and it has so many features it sick!

The only thing standalones have over the PS3 in some people minds are:

Front Display
Standard sizing for fitting in a rack
Analog outs
The ability to bitstream HD audio codecs(I think only one current player has this ability)

The way the PS3 has an advantage:

HDD
Internet connection
Easily upgradeable firmware(for 1.1 and 2.0 profile compatibility)
Always plays the latest titles w/o needing firmware upgrades
Loads the fastest of all players

Also plays videogames
