It happens. At the wal-mart where we received Mr. brooks, hostel 1&2, home of the brave, scary movie and meet the robinsons today for release on the 23rd. so my wal-mart is getting almost all of octobers' releases so far. pretty sweet. the only hd dvd titles we got in the last 2 weeks is evan and transformers. It's safe to say that blu is what wallyworld likes.

Somebody call the FBI!

Oh, it's just a movie they released a tad too early. Wal-Mart is notorious for that.

Hey thanks for posting that. It is useful info.
Since HDM isn't that huge yet Wal-marts may only get like 5 copies of it on BR.
Sometimes the few copies they get are already sold out by release day.
Good heads up!

The original title of this tread is broken release dates. I am wondering if companies, both retailers and distributors really care any more.

BioShock; a popular video game. Toys R Us broke street date.
Lair; A video game. EB Games/GameStop broke street date.
Fantastic Four (2); BlockBuster Video broke street date.
And now Wal-Mart is doing it.

These are some pretty big retailers with some pretty big titles. I remember a time if a retailer even thought about this they would be sued by the distributor and the manager of that store would be fired. Now it seems it is becoming common practice. At this rate there will not be any more official release dates. Retailers will just put their products on their shelfs when they get them.
The whole idea of a specific street date was to even the playing field. One retailer cannot put something for sale while the other retailer had not even gotten their stock in yet. Personally I like it. Why should Wal-mart be able to sell something just because their UPS truck was faster than Toys R Us's.

hmmm its not like that in the uk, at my old place we would (and had) been fined £2,000 per ITEM shipped before the release date. (varies from studio).

the release date for Halo 3 was very very strict , i was at a pre games launch at the local EB and they made sure to wait 2-3 mins after midnight just to make sure their clocks said the 25th when they sold it.

They still care about new, BIG releases.

But older catalog films like Scary Movie are looked over I'm sure.
