Default Going To Chicago 1-30-10 Any suggestions on things to do?

Heading to Chi Town next weekend to spend the day and then see comedian Jim Gaffigan on Sunday the 31st.

Need some suggestions on any fun things to do on Sat/Sun. Are there any festivals going on?

We LOVE to eat. We tried Giordano's last summer and absolutely loved it when we visited last. I hear Gino's East is good? Where can we get the best Chicago dog?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Navy Pier
Bus tour around downtown
Pizza like you mentioned Giordano's and Geno's are the best
Portillo's hot dogs are the only dogs I've had in Chicago and they are good.

+1. Forget the Bulls and see the 'hawks instead. I went to see a game when I was in Chicago (for training) a few years ago (when they were mediocre), and it made my trip. It might be tougher to get tickets now, seeing as they're one of the top teams in the league (single tickets can still be ordered through their website for select games though).

I think it depends on whether you like deep dish-style pizza or not. Had one delievered to my hotel room, but didn't care much for it (more of a thin crust guy).

I've never been to Chicago. All I know is Cubs, Deep Dish Pizza and Batman.

To me the Chicago Deep Dishes don't look good.

That's funny JB, I'm going there in early April to catch a concert, and I'll have a few days to look around the city, so I myself need some suggestions as well.

To me, what makes deep dish pizza unappealing is that it looks like pie (and not in a good way). There's just too much of everything (dough, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, toppings); it looks and tastes heavy. The one time I did order it, I don't think I finished one slice.

when I see them make it on the Food Channel it looks like nothing but marinara sauce. Well also alot of topping but it looks like the sauce overwhelms it

It's not and I live here lol. Too much red sauce kills it for me. I usually scrape some of it off. I haven't had it in a long time. I usually eat normal pizza.

What to do here? This time of year? Not much...other than eat & drink and spend too much $$$ downtown. Money doesn't go far here...

I've been the last two years, once in the fall, once in the summer and had nice weather each time. I really enjoyed the waterfront and Millenium Park, which will likely be ALOT colder now but... the park is still nice. Check TripAdvisor.com, they're pretty helpful, and Giordano's is definitely worth trying.

The Blackhawks are good this year too, as mentioned.

Right, the Architecture River Cruise was pretty cool too, but not sure how it would be in the winter. I found myself just walking up Michigan Avenue and exploring randomly, it's a fun city.

Im from Chi town, and there is a lot of cool stuff to do. I personally love Chicago's Pizza for pizza. A great place for Chicago style hot dogs is Superdawg.
The Shedd Aquarium and the Museums are cool. If you like steak houses and breweries The Berghoff is awesome!

This is actually excellent advice. You'll never imagine having cheese this good! It's called Saganaki

Eat at:
Gino's East or Lou Malnati's for pizza
Portillo's or Superdawg for hot dogs

Go see:
The Blackhawks!!! Check ebay/stub hub for tickets, but expect to pay at least $50/ticket
The Shedd Acquarium
Museum of Science and Industry
Lincoln Park Zoo
Millenium Park

I've been everywhere i've just listed multiple times, and would highly recommend all of them. The Shedd and Millenium Park are especially cool if you ask me!
