Default Please help with PS3 decision

I just got a PS3 80gb and I am wondering if I should take it back and wait for the 40gb. I do not care about backward compatability. I play PS3 games occasionally, but would mainly use it as a upconverting DVD and BD player. Any opinions are appreciated.

yes.

Since you are not big gamer, you do not need extra hard drive space, and you yourself state you do not care about backwards compatibility, so yeah save $100 and get teh 40gb...

The only reason to get the 80 is if you are a gamer (and you are too lazy to add a larger drive into a 60).
I suggest if you don't have one yet, that is a good one as long as you don't have any PS2 games and understand that any PS2 games out will not play on it. But as you are likely to not play them on there, go for it!

Talking Keep it.

You might as well keep it. Regardless if you're a big gamer or not, PS3 will have more downloadable content in the future (Downloadable Games, Music, Movies, etc)... and it never hurts to have an extra 40 for storage.

AND... i read that the 40gig will not have back to back capabilities. Dont quote me on that, but... it's surely something you want to look into.

It would seen to be a no-brainer for me to get the 40gb and save some money, but I just want to make sure I get the better made machine. I am mostly concerned about the fan noise. Do you think there will be any difference in build quality between the two?

Um its actually $399

They dropped the price of the 80GB $100 to $499 so if anything get the $100 back from where ever you bought it.

Cool Take it back for the 40GB

It is my personal opinion that the 60GB systems are the most bulletproof (no, not because I have one) because they are the most fully loaded systems that Sony built. You, however, based on your statement, could care less about most of the factors that would make you want a more robust system so save your money and get the 40GB and then upgrade the HD if you need to. Regardless, enjoy your PS3.

It should be the same system case (other than the omitted ports/hardware) so I would figure it will be the same as all the other model's fans.

If there is no concern for backwards compatiblity with the PS2, and you don't need more than a couple USB ports, I see no reason at all not to go with the 40GB model... plus they throw in Spiderman 3 in most areas... not bad.

It's $299 if you get a sony credit card.

But yes, I agree, the 80gig is going down $100, so return it and buy it again once the price goes down.

isnt the 40gb a barebones ps3, plus its missing ps2 backward compatibility?

It has to have wifi for me. If it doesn't, I'll stick with the 80.

I have heard that the Sony card is completely not the way to go, it actually has an apr of 29.99% according to many on playstation.com's forums it is not the way to go. You would be better off getting it at a Fry's or Best Buy with their house charge card.

As for the wifi, yes the 40GB has wifi. The 40GB is only missing 3 components; Flash/Memory card reader, 2x Usb Ports, and No EE+GS chipset (for ps2 backward compatibility).

According To SCEA the 80GB is as of right now (as of today 10/18/07) $499

The 40gb will have a SATIN SILVER front emblem, instead of the Chrome.

And I believe 'PLAYSTATION 3' is painted on, instead of being chrome inserts.

OK, seems that you don't want to play older games (which I still play till today). So, yes, you should take it back if you don't mind of having only 2 USB port and inability to play SACD (rumoured)
If I were you, I will look for 60GB version (the most complete)
