Default Is it the game or my PS3 (Borderlands)

Is anybody experiencing green sparkling/flickering/screen corruption/whatever the heck it is when playing Borderlands? It happens only occasionally but I'm a little worried if it's my ps3. And it's a slim model. My old PS3 did something like this. But it would freeze and now I got to get that fixed. The slim doesn't do that and it seems to only happen with Borderlands. Is this happening to anybody else?

I'm hoping it is the game. This happens to me on Borderlands and no other game. IIRC, it happens on one specific level on Borderlands and the others are fine, although I have not finished the game as of yet

This started with the last Borderlands patch.

Everybody seems to have it.

Otherwise it's an utter coincidence that it started happening with my entire playgroup simultaneously right after a patch, right at the same time and place.

Well I played MW2 online, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and R&C: A Crack in Time, Demon Souls (f'n hard! Argh!) and those are all fine. So it must be the game. I'm currently doing missions in the Middle of Nowhere area. If that's where everybody else is at.

don't know how to capture or post a PIC from PS3 but did find this on YOUTUBE....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sju0W...eature=related

apparently a few PS3 owners are experiencing this with Borderlands; that is basically what it looks like on mine...I'd add that the entire skyline will do this for a few moments and then goes away after you move to a different part of the map...

only started happening on the map where you re-activate the beacons and has subsequently only happened on this map (don't remember the name of map)

maybe they'll patch? IDK...for the moment it is not too much of a problem for me...distracting if you happen to be fighting and can't see your target(s) for this sparkle...

I'd thought I had corrupted the save file but now see that other PS3 owners are going through the same. Just glad it is not the PS3 itself and yes it seems to be the game

Yup, that's pretty much it. That's a particularly bad one.

It almost looks like artifacting from the GPU but it can't be because it only occurs with Borderlands.

that's exactly what it looks like. They could have borked some code that is just sending wierd instructions to the GPU fudging the code somewhere in the pipeline and causing it to display crazy geometry. Or it could be borked code that is acutely hammering the GPU, causing it to randomly artifact.

Do the makers of borderlands have a forum? have they made any statements on this issue? (I.E. whether or not its "safe" for the PS3) Personally, I'd be hesitant to play with that going on, as it really looks very much like a GPU in pain.

I went to the Gearbox/Borderlands forum; tech support sub-forum and all I could find that the PS3 issue is known, solved and that a fix is awaiting deployment. It did not say, or at least I could not find where it said, that it was currently safe/unsafe for play on PS3

Is it better just to wait until they patch? I figured that since no other problems are manifesting that it would be ok, but now you got me worried...

here's what I found; scroll down to Issues with fixes pending deployment

How did something like this get past QA? What area does the Reight the Beacons mission occur?

If it's a laser or something else you will know. Flickering is more then likely the cpu/gpu getting over loaded and not sending a steady picture.

lol it happened to me for the first time after I turned on the 2 huge beacons! I just assumed it was part of the game, an after effect of turning the 2 energy beams shooting into the sky on! It never happened anywhere else but in that map area for me!

I played through the game twice and never saw that once, even after the update.

I have had problems with framerate issues and screen tearing a few times, but nothing like that in the video posted. It seems to happen when playing with 3 or 4 people online and there is a ton of action on the screen.

My buddy said the other night when we were playing that stuff was randomly scattered through the air, like bodies and stuff lol. Anyways, I hope there is a new patch soon, especially before the next dlc.

I'm just playeing single player and this is happening. You know, it's quite funny I remember that as soon as I turned on the beacons it happend immediately.
