PS3 for SURE!!!! not only is it cheaper then a stand-alone player but you will have the option of playing PS3 game titles. not to mention it is a WONDERFUL BD player.

PS3. Firstly it is the most future-proof Blu-ray player as it is powerful enough for them to add many more features via firmware updates. It has super fast load times. You can also game, and its also the cheapest bluray player at $400-450-500 depending on the model you want. By far the best bluray player.

hey, i think getting ps3 is better because it loads up movies very fast. for example, i bought the day after tomorrow and i tried on the s300 and it took approx 2-3 min but on the ps3 it took 5 seconds. also firware updates are very fast and easy to install and above all you can play games.

I have owned a generation 1 standalone BD player and a PS3 and I recommend the PS3 even if you did not play games. It is an amazing BD player.

Plus, w/ the PS3 you get the firmware upgrades. Can you upgrade firmware on the standalones? And the bluetooth BD remote is cool. No more line-of-sight.

Definitely PS3. Not only the cheapest current BD player, but the most versatile as well.

PS3! As others have said, its firmware scalability can't be beaten! DVD upscaling, games, the list goes on...

As of 24 hours ago, you may now congratulate me for ushering myself into the Big Blu World with a new 60G PS3--
(Which I was going to wait on, but wanted to grab before they made the 40G no-PS2 standard.)

I'm still on the honeymoon--and literally haven't played console games on my own time in nine years--but it's one totally cool and multi-purpose machine:
Did we mention the wireless web browser?

(Now if Netflix would only hurry up and send me my first Blu disk after the weekend, as Best Buy was all sold out of the two or three keeper titles I wanted to come home with.)

And it's the only type of repeat thread that doesn't get onslaughted with nasty comments. And why? Because this is the only topic that needs to be addressed on an individual basis. And, everytime it comes about, the unanimous consensus is PS3 (even though some people come back posting that they decided on a standalone).

So, what are you waiting for? There is a PS3 out there right now with you name on it... waiting for a home where it can be loved and enjoyed.
