Just keep in mind that if you've seen Ong Bak and The Protector, there are shots that look really soft, it's like that too but it's not as bad. Avoid the Europa Corp "Alternate Cut" on the disc. They butchered the film and put the opening credits and blended them in with the end credits and put horrible French rap music over the end credits. I was in shock and awe over that.

EDIT: I cannot comment on Ong Bak yet, it's been ages since I've seen it. I can tell it's in a bast**d Eco-Case.

What about the bonus materials on Ong Bak 1?
Disc rear just says "and more". But are all the DVD extras on there? And is it really just the international version only?

Is the "alternate" version the version that is cut?

I have checked my local fye and target, and neiher of them had ong bak. they only had ong bak 2. Even amazon.com and fye show it as unavailable. Is it exclusive to a specific store or something?

hmmmm, then i guess they just didnt release that many copies to stores perhaps? i checked my closest best buy online and they have it. only problem is its like half an hour away. well see if i can get over there.

If you want to check if any of the Best Buy stores have any copies do this:

1. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Ong+Bak+...0Bak&lp=1&cp=1

2. Click "Store Pickup".

3. When on the "Store Pickup" page, enter your ZIP code.

4. After it searches your ZIP code, it will have a list of stores close to you that will have it in store. If it is in stock, it will have a red "Add to Cart". If it is not in stock, it will be in bold font that is the color gray.

5. If it is available, and you want it, "Add to Cart" and put in your credit card information and they'll hold a copy of it for you at the Customer Service desk.

6. If you do not want to do that, just "X" out of the page or tab and just go to the store and pray they still have copies in stock.

I like using site to store pickup because I am in and out in two seconds. Hope that helps anyone.

Ong Bak only has the Europa Corp cut since Luc Besson bought pretty much all the international rights to the film. Ong Bak 2 has both cuts and you access the Europa Corp cut in the Bonus Material on the disc. If you just push "Play Movie", you have the original Thai theatrical cut. Now, with the Thai DVD release of Ong Bak 2, the film was 93 minutes but the DVD was in PAL format so there's been a speed up on the disc, however on the Blu-ray release, it's 98 minutes long at it's original frame rate.

Yes, back in 2005 here in the U.S. It got a limited 400 screen release by Magnolia who at the time wasn't a big enough studio to release films on DVD at the time so they sold home video rights to FOX. I believe on IMDB or Wikipedia, I don't remember which source it was; it said it made $5 million it's theatrical run here in the U.S.

My Best Buy had three total copies of these, 2 of 1, 1 of the other....I don't recall which. I do know I grabbed the last copy and left only one behind. --how's that for pointless and confusing??

I figure I'll watch 1 first ...that makes sense, right? Then decide whether I want to open 2 or return it. Though I paid with $14 from gift card and $5 from RZ cert....so if I return one, and incur the $10 charge back....maybe I just keep both, even if I don't like them.

So anyway....how's the PQ/AQ on the first movie?

I just finished it, I thought the colors could have been stronger but overall, I give it a 4/5 for the PQ. There's a nice amount of grain on the video too. The audio is nice. I can't give an exact rating on the sound since I have an old set up sound system.
