I have a couple steels that have horizontal scratches on them from pulling them in and out of my shelf... You definitely do NOT want them in front of a BD case where the top logo is embossed because it will scratch them...

They still scratch on your shelf, or you don't use them?

I hate that crap I throw them away. I hardly think that the paper backing will affect the value of a steelbook, and if it does, something's wrong. A booklet, on the other hand, is different.

The scratches I have from pulling cases off the shelf were before I used those bags... No problems at all with the Shop bags...

Most of the Hardcore collectors on here don't have the problem of " should i leave the paper back on or take it off? " because they don't open any of their steelbooks. Leave em sealed and brand new.

I used to store the paper inserts separately, but since I have more SteelBooks than amarays now, I use the inserts as a layer of protection between SteelBooks to prevent the scratching.

I don't really like the plastic bag solution.

Poly sleeves are a pain to get on especially if the steelbook has a paper back insert and is sealed.

I've ripped so many of them and gave up on covering some of my steels since its impossible sometimes.

I throw them out, its just a piece of paper with the Movie info on it, no biggie :P. If I were to sell my collection I doubt anyone would not buy a Steel just cus of the paper unless you are OCD of course eheh

I have been using these for awhile now for both dvd and blu-ray steelbooks. There are thicker, more expensive bags out there, but these work great for what I want to do. Before I used them, I noticed scratches would occur from the SteelBooks rubbing on each other (I open mine, so they were "naked" on the shelf). The polybags prevent the rubbing and scratches from happening. I have some extrra bags as well, and if I'm working a trade with someone overseas, I'll ask them if they want a pack of them.

The bags from shop4tech don't fit a blu-ray SteelBook perfectly since they are made for dvd, but I cut the top just above the sticky strip, and the bag will then seal right on top of a blu-ray Steelbook.

Could you give me a link to them.
So far I've just been able to get one type.
Didn't know there were thicker ones out there.

If you were you I would never get rid of the extra booklets and goodies like that (cf. The Sweeney Todd play.com exclusive)
That's exactly what I did with my earlier ones like the Dark Knight and Indiana Jones. I took off the paper back, folded it, and put it in the steelbook.

I open my steels and watch them...but I do like the idea of keeping them in a plastic bag. I have access to a shrinkwrapping machine so I may just separate the discs from my steels and reshrink the steels to keep them pristine.

I keep mine-but not for resale reasons-only to keep them complete, as purchased them. I do open my Steels and am currently considering ways to protect them (thanks everyone, for posting info on bags, etc).

Like Mr. B, I trim mine so that I can put them inside the Steelbooks along with the Booklet or Inlay. I think it looks pretty catchy when you open em up

I did that for the first few steels I bought but now I decided not to trim them anymore, not sure if the paper effects the value that much?
