Default Jumping ship straight to Blu?

Does a studio HAVE to go neutral first before joining the other side? Lets take Universal for example, if they saw the light that Blu-Ray is the way to go could they simply stop providing HD-DVD's and just go straight to the Blu camp?

I guess they could, but most people want them to go neutral first ... Going neutral will only prolong things IMO. Just get it over and done with.

Unless an exclusivity contract exists the studios can do as they please. With the sales dominance of blu-ray no one would find it suspicious or dubious.

It's all up to the company. If they're stuck in a contract, are they willing to pay to end the contract early they can do that. If there is no contract (unlikely) then they would have most gone Blu long time ago or at the least, go neutral.

Well I'd guess that they'd go neutral first, for a while anyway.
Allows them to ramp one side down whilst they ramp the otherside up.
Of course, there's no accounting for these decisions when large sums of cash are involved!

it would be strange if the likes of universal suddenly announced exclusivity to BD, wouldn't it? I would think that they went neutral first before announce any exclusivity.

But if I saw Uni's HD DVD, it is unlikely they will go neutral. The same applied to FOX and Disney

theyve been claiming HD-DUD was the thing to go for, for two years.. they have to go neutral first to save the face.
