That's cool, I was just wondering. I always wanted to get it, but held off due to it being non-anamorphic. It'd be a nice Blu-ray release.

Hopefully one day Criterion will start releasing Blu-ray, but I have a feeling we might be in for a long wait.

It was actually the first DVD I ever bought

The gag reel alone is priceless, and the commentary track too

Track one is Bay and Affleck together, and other people seperately. The second track is the science advisors on the film poking holes in all the BS science.

It's far more likely that they will license the Criterion extras and repeat them on the Blu. The Criterion Armagedddon, Rock, and the Wes Andersons are all distributed to retail by Disney

Wow!!! The Armageddon Criterion was somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-300 dvds I bought. Let me think what were my first DVDs...that's right Goldeneye and Desperado.

Same here... well, technically the Theatrical edition and then the Criterion Edition... each one I bought BEFORE even owning a DVD player... Loved all the Sling NASA jokes Affleck was tossing around. But yes, the transfer on Armageddon is amazing. Almost as amazing as The Rock. I don't think I've ever seen a DVD hide compression as well as the Criterion version of The Rock.

But! I did think parts of Transformers was filmed using Super 35. I might be wrong though...

They may have used it for the FX plates, but usually he uses the superior Vista Vision.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VistaVision

He swore off Super35 after the Rock, the results it gave him greatly displeased him

He's worked with, and insisted on Criterion for several of his films because he wanted them to be their best.

nice info and iam sure after 16 months we will get one of the best BD's ever of Transformers with lossless audio and a 2-disc edition maybe
my heart kinda goes out to michael bay it was one of his best movies(although i love all of em ) and something to not be able to see it to its full potential is really dissapointing specially for the person who created it and for the consumers

It's a pathetic state of affairs on the counterpart thread to this one on AVSforum.

They (Hdud fandrones) are really ripping and personally attacking michael bay ... that's so pathetic and sad.

Now I'm not the world's biggest Michael Bay fan... I can't think of any film he's done that I've really cared for--just not my type of movies. But I definitely didn't run out and buy his latest flick this week, proclaim it to be the greatest and most important video release in history, and then go online to bash the guy. It takes a special kind of insanity to say the best movie ever made was directed by the worst director in history.

Michael Bay has made some great and terrible movies, he's not the best director in Hollywood but he is talented in his own way. Personally I think he did spectacularly with Transformers. I don't get the immature mindset who attack him calling him a hack director (based on his anti-HDDVD views) etc yet they are praising Transformers, when at the end IT IS THE directors vision. If he was anti-bluray........imagine the hDud fan boys!

They're all just DVDs. It's just a difference of what room they were in when I was entering them. I still have a lot of titles to go, and titles spread around all over the place. So I was entering them in groups so I'd remember which ones I'd entered. If I ever get around to finishing entering all the titles, I'll get rid of the tags, though it is kind of nice to have to remember what room a title is in. But since they get moved around from player to player, the tags would mostly be wrong after awhile.

anyone here want to discuss with the HD-DVD fanboys in exactly what way does HD-DVD provide a sharper, clearer image for us those who want to enjoy the film itself... it has less space and less of a maximum bitrate, and the exact same choices of codecs as we have. why do they stand and fight for a format that can't perform on the same level as Blu-ray?

I've tried asking this question they only come back with it's cheaper and region free, I don't get it hairspray is delayed for HD-DVD because it's region free while we get it in Nov, so TBH I really don't get where these guys are coming from...

His backtracking seemed to be the kind of thing that happens after somebody reminds you have your contractual obligations not exactly how he feels. He really might not have any control over it at all and possible will be in violation of a contract if he does not fulfill certain obligations
