United Kingdom Amazon.co.uk shipping

Every time I import something from amazon.co.uk to the States, it always arrives way before the estimated delivery date.

Just got something in that wasn't scheduled until the 24th, a full 6 days early!

Does anyone know the process in which they estimate their delivery dates?

Really, Amazon are just covering their own backs. Depending on the shipping option you choose, they decide on a rough amount of time it should take i.e 3-5 days. They expand this period slightly cause if anything goes wrong, they normally have a set amount of time they will wait before they will refund you or send you a replacement disc. In this time, you're disc may show up and you will have wasted your time contacting them.

Yeah, not to mention it makes your day when you find a brand new blu-ray a week before estimation!

nine times out of ten, it's the same coming the other way. Whenever I import from amazon.com, they estimate some crazy time for it and inevitably it arrives long before they suggest it will.

It's the same ordering in the UK. I rarely bother checking the estimates as they're always off by 3-4 days atleast.

The majority of times I'll get my packages 1-2 days before the estimate (usually just go for the free delivery), sometimes dead on it as was the case with The Prestige and Terminator: Salvation this week, but rarely over it.

Funny how everyone's getting stuff early yet my two Lost boxsets and Exorcist are going to arrive at least a day or two after they are out in the shops. Not happy. When your spending over £300 it would be nice to have the thing on day of release.

Yeah, I get pre-orders after release too. I'm not saying Amazon are super quick, it's more a case of them making their estimates far too long. If I pre-order stuff, it usually comes day after release, but they'll estimate 2-3 days after release.

On the topic of shipping times... Zavvi seriously suck. I ordered Donnie Darko from them a few weeks ago, and I ordered Se7en and Almost Famous last tuesday which still have not shipped. All items are listed as in stock, so why does it take 7 days before they send them out?

Yeah they suck for pre-orders.
They ship it a day before release if you choose free delivery as I got both [rec] 1 and [rec] 2 on release date but I used amazon prime for Lost and it wasnt shipped today even.

Hey guys i was thinking of importing a movie from Amazon.co.uk to the states. I've never imported something before so how does it work? Do i have to pay an extra shipping charge, or is the price of shipping going to increase? Will Amazon automatically convert my money from US dollars to pounds? Can i pay with US dollars? I know these are probably dumb questions. Thanks .

Hey, wanted to ask some things. I recently bought two Blu-rays from Amazon.com. One was shipped on 8th October via Standard International Shipping with an estimate delivery of 12th November. The other was shipped on 4th October via Expedited International Shipping with an estimate delivery of 23rd October. Firstly, will it take THAT long? As the first one is over a month wait! Also, the Expedited one cost me nearly £30 (box set), will I have to pay custom fees etc? If so, how much would I have to pay?

Yes there will be an additional fee (I believe it's labeled as an international fee on your credit card bill). It automatically converts pounds to dollars so there are no worries there

Do you know how much this extra fee is, just an estimate? I don't want to order something and have the additional fee come out to be more expensive than the price of the item i'm purchasing.

Usually my mine arrive early, just got Flame and Citron and Zulu a week after it shipped! But a few times it arrived only a few days before the estimated arrival luckily I've never had to wait the full period or longer!

customs expenses depends of item cost. Don't know about UK, but more than 20-30 Euros in most european countries, pays customs tax

Standard and Expedited International Shipping is almost equal in speed... 4-5 days or so. Doesn't justify cost difference, IMO

Not sure... I know I ordered a few things in the beginning of last month and they were slated for the beginning of October for arrival but I received them like two weeks later.

It's important to note that both items I ordered from Amazon UK, the packages I received last month came from Amazon France. So, I'm guessing if they don't have it and Amazon France does, they'll send it from there.

I would also like to add that Amazon UK ships at time-traveling speeds. Everytime I open my mailbox and I see a package waiting for me from Amazon UK, there have been many times that I think to myself, "but I just placed the order for this a couple days ago...how could they have done that so fast?" They ship faster than most of the stuff I order domestically.

Why exactly is their shipping so fast between UK and USA?
