I didn't like the Fountain either but I have only watched it once not because I didn't get it I just didn't think it was good. The acting seemed poor and the film was fairly slow paced. I will probably give it another try at some point though.

I think with a lot of the movies mentioned you just have to be in the right state of mind to watch them. It's very hard to appreciate a movie that's trying to be overly meaningful when all you wanted was to sit down, be entertained and escape for a couple hours. There are a few movies I hated on initial viewings but have learned to at least gain some appreciation for on repeat viewings. Examples would be Dark City, 2001 & 300.

Very true, and the reverse as well. I cant watch a silly action movie if I am in serious mode because I find myself being overly critical about the films lack of realism. And thats not fair to the film.

I tried to expand my cinematic horizons to Japanese animation by watching Akira... and, uh.... can someone explain what the hell happened at the end?

Default Response to Blu Blood about American Psycho

I assume its all in his mind because the creepy lady that was in his apartment asking who he was and was he doing there and all the body parts he had in his closet were gone and everything was all cleaned up. that, and his attorney having no memory of his confession.

Sussudio said something about this but i forgot.
I will admit that Mary Harron went with a bit of ambiguity in her interpretation of Brett Easton Ellis' novel but...

[Show spoiler]Yes Patrick Bateman did actually do all the killing. The movie kind of falls into an almost first person view towards the end. It tries to make you feel like Bateman himself feels. He starts getting confused and wondering what's going on so the movie tries to make the audience feel like this as he slips into insanity. I'm pretty sure the point with the creepy lady in the apartment is that they did actually clean up the place and she is just so into selling it (bloated capitalism, the actual point of the film) that she does not want anyone to know about what they found there. The look she gives Bateman is almost a "how did you know something happened here?" look. As far as the attorney goes. He just thinks it's a joke and they show how they are all just so into making money and full of themselves that they can't even remember who it was they were actually talking to. Kind of like they don't really care about you so they easily forget you the minute you walk out the door. Bateman is being confused with that Marcus Halberstrom (I think that's his name) character that he's been impersonating. If your wondering how I'm getting all this it's because I read the book and these things are more fleshed out there. Plus his friends don't care about anything but themselves and they kind of view Bateman as a chump so they would never think that he could even be capable of the things he's done. I could go on and on but basically the theme of the movie is greed in the Regan era and everyone is so selfish they could care less if Bateman was "getting away with murder".

I hope that helps and doesn't make things more confusing.

if you "get" the Fountain, you can only think its good. its like pizza. no way of not liking it, once you've truly digested it.
