Has anybody heard a release date for The Godfather? or is that one that will be HDDVD exclusive?

Paramount. For now...HD-DVD only depending on release date and exclusivity arrangement with Toshiba.

microsoft made an offer to paramount they couldn't refuse.

One thing to note though: Coppola's Zoetrope Studios will probably oversee the mastering process. Given that they reputedly did a crap job on Dracula, I don't expect The Godfather to be reference quality.

But it's still a must-have, just dased on content alone.

It actually is in the process of being remastered or just finished being worked on.
Don't expect it to be a HD only release. Coppola is another Blu fan and the way he was treated concerning the remastering (Spielberg had to come in and save the project), I don't expect it before the $150 million runs out.
