Just bought a top of the line HP PC with Windows 7, Quad Core, Blu ray drive etc. Model 190a.
But it is quite noisy. Not mindblowingly bad but noisy enough to be quite intrusive and annoying (certainly not whisper quiet). Anyone else have this unit, or a Quad Core? Are they all on the noisy side due to the power usage? |

What's noisy about the computer? Most of the time it's fans. Sometimes hard drives can be noisy when they are being accessed. CD Roms can be noisy also when spinning a cd. For a near silent computer you should have built your own using the Antec P182.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129025 I've had mine since '07. Only time I can hear it is when the room is completely silent and it's still just a quite hum. Power usage could be a factor. If your power supply is being over-worked, the fan (if there is one in the PSU) can be spinning at max which may be noisy also. Best thing to do is take off the side panel and listen to wear the noise is coming from. Last edited by tootall82103; 03-04-2010 at 10:59 AM. |

I uploaded it on youtube. This is not as loud as it sometimes gets, but just an example. I had to turn the volume on my PC up to hear it properly, but when turned up it is accurate:

I haven't worked with hp PCs, so I'm not sure how noisy they are (or aren't) supposed to be.
The main culprits for noise from a PC are:
In your case, we know fans are the contributors, but unless you have an SPL (Sound Pressure Level) meter on-hand and the case/chassis is opened, it will be difficult to track down the main source of the noise based solely on the provided video. |

That thing is noisy. Lol. I got a new Dell XPS 9000 a few weeks back. Whisper quiet. I have to cup my ear and bend down to hear anything. It sits on the floor next to my desk.
Noises like fans get on my nerves so I would hear something. Yours is definitely a fan of some sorts. |

You could look into controlling the speeds of your fans. Often enough ther are BIOS settings for CPU fan speed, or there are programs like SpeedFan that can allow you to control them from Windows. For NVIDIA video cards you can use EVGA Precision to lower the fan's speed for quieter running. Just be sure to not set them too low and monitor your temps to keep from overheating things.
