What if it was a voluntary $5.00 a year?

Once a year a PM was sent out to all members asking for a $5 donation to help the forum. Completely 100% volunteer. If someone did not want to, no problem with no reprisals. All donations and all no donations are kept secret and not available to anyone for any reason.

What about something like this????

Just thinking because I have my own web site (a small one) and it costs me a bit just to keep it on a server somewhere and mine takes very little storage space. My guess is that Blu-Ray.com has a large storage bill plus many, many hours of someone's time and effort. Plus, my guess is that Amazon doesn't pay much for referrals.

Wouldn't pay for it. I do use the links for most purchases though. Great site as it is!

Do I think this (charging a fee) will happen? No. Prospective new members would probably never get past the link asking how they would like to make their payment which would (IMO) shrink membership and defeat one of the purposes of this site to educate about Blu-ray and high-def in general.

But speaking for myself, I would have no problem with a fee. But I will continue to express my thanks to all of the great members and staff who take the time to help us lay-folks out. I simply would not be where I am now otherwise. And, yes, I will continue to use the links from here to Amazon....

It's an interesting suggestion you made Jim..

Again, this is all hypothetical.. IF the site needed money, would you help? I only posed the question as it came in to my head the other night.

For those concerned about not attracting the new members if there was a "method of payment" process on registration, how about registering for free, and after say 6 or 12 months, new members would get a PM saying "You have been a member of the forum for 1 year now. To continue this membership we require $5…"

What then for existing members? When would they have to pay? Immediately? Or in 6 or 12 months time like new members? (from date of implementaion)

I think a lot of people would "renew" their membership! The info one gets here is invaluable! The community itself is extremely friendly and great to be a part of!

In a world where people pay a dollar or two for pointless apps that might only be used once, I don’t think it's too far fetched to expect people to pay $5 for access to this site.

That is funny. You are correct. The site is worth the $5 a year but the members aren't.

hey b0bby!

No one is asking you to pay, no no.. it was just a question.. if it were implemented you would be paying to keep the site alive and run the way it is now.. I'm not sure if "pay for use" forums exist, perhaps they do. If you want something bad enough, aint you gona pay?
