Default Netflix to charge $1 more per month for blu-ray rentals...

Got this email today from Netflix:

As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we're going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies.

The additional charge for unlimited Blu-ray access will be automatically added to your next billing statement on or after November 5th, 2008 and will be referenced in your Membership Terms and Details. If you wish to continue getting Blu-ray movies for $1 a month more, you don't need to do anything. If not, you can remove Blu-ray access anytime by visiting Your Account at the Netflix website.

If you have questions about this change or need any assistance, please call us anytime at 1-888-638-3549.

-The Netflix Team

I just got this message, too. Frankly, I don't think that's too bad of a deal. Only $1 more. I was worried it was going to be $5 more, or an extra amount for each blu ray.

Sounds like they're getting kinda greedy due to the high demand.

No I agree, $1 is fine by me. When I saw the message heading in my email inbox I thought "oh great, here we go." But this is reasonable, although I'm sure some people will disagree.

I cancelled my blu-ray option. Why should I pay an extra dollar for blu-ray when the shipping is so slow. If I like the standard dvd, then I will just buy the blu-ray.

I can deal with $1 a month, its not that big of a deal. I still think they should be the same price though.....

I'll pay it when they actually ship me my Blu-Ray releases. It seems like there is always a long wait. I'm very tempted to cancel it. For example, I've had the movie Vantage Point in my queue since its released and its still 'Very Long Wait' next to it since.

it's a DOLLA, bro. damn. maybe the extra dollar will help the shipping speed etc.

you don't want to pay $1 more a month but you're willing to watch a standard DVD and miss out on the experience of watching a movie for the first time on bluray and then add the expense of $20 or more for purchasing a SINGLE blu ray?? time to re check that math

Hey,

I love Netflix and get Blu Ray often from them but.... I'll have to think this over. Lately if there is something I want on Blu Ray,.. I just buy it so my Que is filled with stuff my wife and kids wants to see that is usually not Blu Ray.

I'll have to mull over killing off the Blu Ray part of my Netflix now.

*Taps his nose*

Considering Blu-Ray prices are not that much more than DVD.

And Netflix is paying a lot less than we are for them.

If it helps shipping then I will go back to it. I will wait and see. Until then I have an extra dollar to blow on a twenty dollar blu-ray which makes it nineteen dollars. How's that for math huh? I'm smart

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I just recently moved this to the top of my queue and it shipped the same day As for the $1 increase (and applicable taxes) I'm fine with that, $5.99 a month to watch two new movies on Blu is totally worth it to me

$1 is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I get blu's very easily from them, never had an issue with that. If the dollar goes into shipping thats even better, doubtful that it will tho since the $1 is for the cost of the disk and not the shipping.

I can live with $1.00. If it was going to be more I would have probably cancelled the BD option.

I disagree with the principle of this move, so I'm sticking with Blockbuster.

Hell you can skip the $12 increase and buy an HD-DVD with your savings instead

They got me for the dollar. My returns have not diminished enough to justify cancellation. I would rather rent than buy.

A dollar people. Thats not too much. How cheap are you? Now if you don't get Blu's from them I can see the point. Me I get every Blu I want . No long waits in my Q.

if I got to the point in my life where a dollar increase in any service I use makes me "mull it over" I should probably take a look at my priorities and budget as a whole.
