Default Am I strange...or is Samsung??

Well okay, I know I'm strange; anybody who likes peanut-butter-and-spinach sandwiches can't be said to be entirely normal. But I have to kinda wonder about Samsung too, particularly when it comes to their 3D public release strategy. What I've experienced may be particular only to the section of the state I live in--east-central Iowa in the USA, but I've found this in all of the larger stores I've visited.

In both Sears and Best Buy stores, the 7000 series 3D model is hooked up and on display, but Samsung hasn't sent any of these retailers glasses or demo discs. A Sears electronics salesman said he was more than a little angry over this, since a lot of people wanted to see a demo, couldn't, and walked away shaking their heads. He knew they wouldn't be back.

Best Buy in my hometown amused me with their explanation. The manager of the electronics department told me that since the glasses cost $400 (yes, she said four hundred dollars), the store would not get any 3D demo material from Samsung until mid-July. That she was full of fly food from her hair to her toes was starkly obvious, but I kept a straight face and thanked her for her time.

But let's be serious here. How is it possible that Samsung could send a $3,000 3DTV to a retail outlet, and not send two pairs of glasses and a demo disc in the same shipment? What, they can afford to manufacture a TV, but including the glasses would be price-prohibitive?

I'd like to think that this nonsense is only happening where I live, but I'm not so sure. We're talking here about a company whose first blu-ray player was a legendary disaster, and which is facing a lawsuit over the possibility of using inferior manufacturing materials in a number of their televisions. These people may not be able to see the obvious consequences of some of their policies.

Was it a Blu-ray 3D demo disc? Was it 1080p? 3D BDP? HDMI 1.4 compliant? Im really curious as it is still way early in the 3D game.

It was a Samsung 1080P-3D Tv...a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player (Model: BD-C6900XAA) I believe and 3D Demo Disc that came with the tv. Didn't ask how much the 3D glasses were....but he told me that the tv came with 2 Pairs of glasses.

according to best buy's website the 3-d glasses are not included, you have to buy them separate

I went to Best Buy yesterday in southern Indiana and found the same thing. They had no glasses, no demo, no anything. It was just sitting there next to all the other TVs.

This thread has me curious now. I live about 10 minutes from a BB so I might ride over there today to see how they have their display set up.

My local best buy has the Samsung 3D display setup with 4 pairs of glasses and the Monters vs. Aliens demo. It's pretty cool, but not cool enough for me to jump. Glasses are $150 a pair . Family of six and little kids... no way.

It's also my opinion that it is going to be much better on a large screen that the standard sizes of LCD's and Plasma's. I think much of the effect is lost even on a 55" display. I think I will wait until it is integrated into projectors. By that time monoprice will have 3D glasses for $5 . Of course this is only my opinion.

It's like everything else. Give it a year or two and it will be way better and way cheaper.
