Well, Disney's been doing this since their days of VHS video, so its not much of a surprise. Basically, what happens is that whenever a new video format is adopted, Disney releases its animated classics for about 18 months, and then puts them on moratorium (a.k.a. "in the Disney Vault") for a period of seven years. this way, they can continue to re-release the films again, and again, for each new generation of viewers.

Really nice-looking and clean at 720 lines! One of my all-time favorites. Glad I have the 2-disc Platinum Edition DVD set for now. Will definitely upgrade when the time comes!

Another of those movies I saw like 300 times as a teenager, can't wait to see it in HD. Will cheer when Mufasa gets clawed and falls into the stampeding wildebeest!

It's Disney but it's also almost 20 years old so it will depend on how well they've taken care of the original film.

Well, the original "Star Wars" film was terribly deteriorated, prior to its remastering in 1997. That release was even further restored by Lowry Digital Images for the 2004 DVDs, and I suspect they'll probably be cleaned even further for the (eventual) Blu-Ray set.

They will be on blu-ray when 7,8,9 come out in 10 years.
