Default The Lion King 15th Anniversary

I was on wikipedia browsing for some random movie information when i read that The Lion King was being released on blu-ray next year for it's 15th anniversary. for those of you familiar with wikipedia you know it is the most unreliable thing on earth due to the fact anyone can edit the information. BUT that brings to light the fact that it actually is the 15th anniversary next year and Disney is looking for a way to end this war. Could Disney be hiding information about this because this movie could bring the end of the high def format war. And not to mention it has been featured in the new blu-ray commercials on Disney dvds. Just speculation but could it actually happen?

If this was true I'm all over this one. I remember when it came out and I still think it's the greatest and my favorite animated flick of all time.

well wikipedia is the farthest thing from the truth though i have found some information regarding certain things months before any official announcements. one regarding disney in particular.

a few months ago i was browsing wikipedia and found a brief paragraph saying that tim burton would be directing an alice in wonderland remake for disney. and what do you know a month later the news was all over.

but what i am asking is though, is it a possibility with Sleeping Beauty already being planned for release? and if so how could they be hiding this without it getting out?

I don't think Lion King would end the hi def war, but if they release all of their old classics I think that would have a huge impact.

why wouldn't it though. it's probably the only animated movie that both boys and girls will enjoy watching (disney wise you've got princesses or princesses) and it is a lot more popular than most of the others animated films, not to mention the huge revenue at the box office it had. i dont know but it would sure put a huge dent in sales at the very least.

but once again no one has answered my question. is there even the slightest possibility it could be planned?

I rather have Jungle Book or Nightmare Before Christmas but any Disney release is great.

I don't have any inside information but last year the studios announced a great big list of titles at the CES. If you look at the announced releases for next year there are many weeks that have few titles after mid Feb. I think you will find Disney and others making some pretty spectacular announcements during this years CES.

I'd get this without a second thought.

As others have said.. classic disney titles can be a big hit to the war.

i got the following from a board : you know what may have convinced me to get a Blu Ray player to match my HD player? (aside from the awesome price on the new Panasonic player, of course...)

I watched Ratatouille (the standard def DVD) on my 360 HD-DVD add on. (no upconversion, I was on Component.) Even then, the movie looks loving outstanding. My eyes can't even imagine what Ratatouille looks like on hi def format...

You can see the restoration of Sleepy Beauty in Ratatouille trailer in High Def, but it last just a couple of second. All the footage in the trailer come from Stock , actual film, and they there's a sequence with a Half Screen Stock vs Remastered and WOW what a SHOCK!, this is the only sequence is all the announcement trailer that is restored right now...

There was part of the Lion King on one of my newer Disney discs...I'd have to double check to see what was on there.

Who knows when it will come out though.

I definitely was sad when I found out that Jungle Book wasn't coming out on blu-ray on its last release.

While I'd be all over this one...
Considering the recent SD-DVD release and the fact that by the 20th anniversary there will be a much larger HD-install base.. I'm guessing they'll skip this one.

I really hope The Lion King does come next year, I'd be on it in a split second.

If Disney backtracks on their "Platinum" title release schedule, and puts out "The Lion King" it would be very cool, but unlikely to do much for sales.

When Disney decided to start bringing their animated classics to DVD back in 1999, they released 9 "limited edition" titles... which sold terribly. Their new release schedule was devised, in part, to prevent another fiasco like that.

They sold terribly because they were non-anamorphic, lacked special features, were 2nd tier titles, and cost $39.99. Disney won't make that mistake again.
