Default Black flickering with Demo 3DTV

So I was at a Sony store this week and I tried out their 3DTV booth. When I put on the glasses and watched some soccer in 3D I noticed that there was a black flicker that would happen pretty frequently. Has anyone else ever run into this? Is it normal, or maybe the demo booth was broken (glasses out of sync with TV or something)?

Nobody has seen this before? Maybe it was a problem with the TV then.

I was able to demo the Panasonic and the Samsung and it was just the Samsung that I noticed the flickering. The rep told me that you do not get the flickering with the Plasma as it is caused by the refresh rate.

To me the flicker looked like it was coming from the glasses, not the TV. I'm going to go to another display and see if I get the same results.

I noticed flicker as well at the sony store. It mostly seemed noticeable on bright portions of the demo. When I mentioned something the worker said that the 3D was just a prototype and not totally complete . However I suspect he was just making that up as it certainly appeared to be caused by the glasses and not the TV. When I would remove the glasses the flicker wasn't there, but would return again once I placed them back on.

I witnessed no flicker on either the Samsung or the Panasonic that was on display near me. I will say, I could not keep the Panasonic glasses straight on my face.

The 3D TV's at Sony Style stores and the glasses are prototypes or mock up models, not the real thing. This was communicated back in January during CES

Really? That's pretty lame. I'll check out some Samsung/Panasonic ones then to see if I run into the same problem.

Ah, funny that you mention it, I was talking about this in another thread.

I noticed flicker in both the Samsung and Panasonic demo, maybe more in the Panasonic. The deal with the Samsung, is that the double image is bad enough, so my attention is focused on trying to mentally make one of them disappear (lol?). While on the Panasonic, there is no double image, so all I experience is the flicker.

Either way, I don't think 3D is ready yet. I still can't believe how it became a standard with all the flaws it has.

i noticed flicker on the samsung near me... not so much on the panny; but i gotta say, the glasses were horribly uncomfortable... left a red mark for quite a while on my noise and couldn't keep them straight at all... i dunno, not too impressed honestly (i wear glasses, so that is most likely the reason for akward fitting)

At a Panasonic 3D demo I attended, I experienced zero flicker. The effect was more akin to polarized glasses, but not really... Then again, this was a while back when Panasonic was using Xpand glasses to show off their 3DTVs.

Well at least I know I'm not going crazy. If I ever get into 3D I'll have to look carefully that this issue is resolved. It's a deal-breaker for me. Thanks guys.
