I'm fairly new to Blu-ray, in fact I have yet to get my player. I was going to get a Panasonic DMP-BD10AK. I keep on hearing about firmware. Can someone please explain this to me. How is the firmware downloaded? Is there a built in WiFi connection so it will recieve updates automatically or do you have to physically connect it to a computer? Will my player come with all the updates or will I have to install them first?
Any answers would be great since I am new to the whole "firmware" thing. Gibbs |

Firmware for the Panny can be downloaded from this site: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...d10/index.html
Just choose the DMP-BD10A selection, and follow the instructions to check the firmware version on your player, and then download the firmware (if needed) for your particular region. The file that you downloaded is an .exe file which is actually a self extracting .rar file. If you have a PC, you just click the file to extract it. If you have a Mac, then you can change the suffix on the file to .rar, and then use a program like UnRarX (freeware) to extract the file. Once you do that, then you will have a file called "PANA_DVD.FRM". The Panny does not have a wifi or ethernet connection, so you will have to burn a Data CD with this file on it. You can use the Windows XP writing application, or a program like Nero (PC) or Toast (Mac). Then, just follow the instructions on the Panasonic site to do the update. This really just consists of turning the player on and inserting the CD. You leave the front cover open, and then the player will read the CD and install the firmware automatically. The player will read "FINISH" and eject the disc when it's done. That's it! HTH |
