Default My Costco is stupid.

I went to Costco today after school to pick up Spiderman. As I was walking through the TV section they had Spiderman playing on a 60" 1080p TV using a regular DVD!!! What the hell was that all about? I didn't say anything; I just shook my head and walked away confused.

This is no worse than teh Wally World Hi Def display running BR and HD DVD using composite cables and 2 channel audio to the tv for both the HD DVD player and the BR player on the display. The staffer said all they could do is hook it up with the cables provided in the boxes for the players and walked away.

Considering that 99% of the people going there to pick up SM were picking up the DVD, I don't see what is 'stupid' about it.

They should set it up where they have two tv's set up right next to each other and they show the dvd version on one and the blu on the other so people can see the big difference right away.

Why would Costco care? They don't have anything in this format war, and they aren't even an electronics store. They sell merchandise - period.

Not only that but both Costco and BB when they have an actual HD signal running on the tvs it is always rather shitty and typically hooked up with component.

True. No matter what the source, the picture generallly looks like crap. If you want to see how good HD can look, you don't go to Costco. If you want a great deal on tires, or a 10lb box of cereal, then Costco is the place to go.

I bet you wouldn't see a family electronics store run like that. If they really care to dazzle their customers, they would rip open the good stuff and secure it to make sure it doesn't walk.

The only thing worse than composite is coax. ugh.

The walmarts in calgary alberta have gotten these sweet blu-ray displays they put in the main aisle infront of the electronics department. Its 4-sided with 2 monitors and on the corners it has little boards that talk about the increased resolution, 7.1 sorround, increased interactivity of bluray and that its PS3 compatible (all great things)

However, on 1 of the monitors they tend to play an HDDVD add, at one store I went to the HDDVDs themselves were in the back of the store, but in another walmart they had hddvds in the display itself! they also had more BDs and HDDVDs in the back. For the most part though its good to see, as the emphasis is obviously on bluray.

a friend of mine told me he once bought an HDTV at costco, got it home, opened it, and found it was already messed with. In fact it was already open with the batteries in the remote, and the HDTV clearly unwrapped.
He returned it to find out that there is a clause on the membership agreement saying that electronics at Costco can be refurbished items without prior notification... in other words anything you buy there could be a broken model they fixed up and resold to you without telling you.
So buyer beware. Don't buy HDTV at Costco.. but the movies and others things should still be fine.

Well I usually buy my movies from BB or Amazon. I only went there because it just opened and I wanted to check out the selection. They didn't have much of a Blu Ray selection, but the only HD DVD they had was Transformers, so I guess that was somewhat smart.

My costco in San Diego was selling the HD-DVD player and I went in yesterday and they still had it, but it was the last 1 and it wasn't even turned on anymore. The s301 sony was right next to it hooked up to a bravia television looking beautiful. unfortunately they are still selling HD DVD's in the back, but they are mostly the "Best of" packs.

Hey, top this one. We have a chain of stores by the name of Fred Meyers here in the NW (owned by Kroger). Anyway, they are running ads for the release of Spiderman on the radio and stating that it is available on DVD, Blu Ray and also HD DVD.

That's not right.

The Costco in Chantilly, VA returns the sets to the manufacturer. I've never seen a product that was re-packaged and re-sold at Costco.

I purchased a Vizio 32" HD set there last November for the bedroom and it was brand new and it's been great.
