I think he is tired of all the crap he gets from bluray people when he publishes his articles and only uses data that helps make his point, while leaving out the data that hurts it.

He's a shill, and since the entire industry now knows that he's working for Toshiba, his usefulness for awhile has been completely cut off at the knees.

He's worse than a shill...

But, taking the high road and not going there is probably better.

He's a shill across the board ..MS being his biggest benefactor for years..

Same folks/publication that have been shilling for the 360 and trashing the PS3 in the same way as this whole HD DVD vs Blu-ray fiasco. Same levels of misinformation and parroting of the party line to re-inforce that it's "real" because it's coming from someone that is supposedly independent. Not.

None of which he discloses in any of his articles..he used to use his "research" company as part of the byline to give the appearance he is neutral in these issues...the lack of transparency is the issue not people having different opinions.

I believe he's currently working the following article:

I think he's waiting to get his paycheck from Toshiba. They spent all their money on the Paramount bribe.

It seems quite a few MS cheerleaders have gone MIA recently.

Is the MS HD-DVD pot drying up?

That guy is a freakin' tool and a half. I remember all of his doom and gloom articles about how Apple was gonna go under and how iPod business was unsustainable-- I think he may have just been a tad bit off.

The guy who wrote the blog As the Apple Turns at appleturns.com used to use this guy's ridiculous quotes as cannon fodder on a regular basis. This guy's middle name is FUD. Amazing that he has a job.

The Logic of the HD-DVD camp...

(actually I just wanted to post a picture of a cute cat)

I say no news is good news. If we don't hear the FUD and spin from them, it means no one else is either.

He is very much the definition of a shill - he's paid to post his opinions. So unless someone pays him, he's not posting any. I doubt he works for free .

I wonder if he could even be paid to change his mind. How much for a full public retraction of anything anti-Blu he's ever written?

He is a consultant, so he is pretty much in the business of being right, even when he's wong

My take on it is that he has his finger on the "delete article" button concerning his last two "Blu is dying" articles, waiting for some big news favorable to Blu since TF failed in being the killer release it was supposed to be.

After the Warner interview of yesterday, the finger is now closer to the button.

All that will eventually be left is an article he wrote a long time aggo predicting Blu Ray winning (he suposedly made one according to him) before he turned his vest (probably right when MS got involved), so that he can say: "See? I was right !"

It's not amazing he has a job. FUD _is_ his job.

I'm being completely serious actually. It _is_ this man's job to create effectual FUD to help channel consumers to brands. That is what he does and what he is paid for in a very exact way.

I won't go into my personal history with the guy except to say that FUD is his job.

I believe that Rob Enderle took much of his basis for an article last year from an article by rdjam of avsforum fame. First there is the article from rdjam December 3rd, 2006 here:

http://www.hdnowonline.com/Comment_PS3_Launch.html

Three days later this article from Rob Enderle showed up:

http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback158.html

with references to rdjam's website. Looks like Rob Enderle even did one of the tricks (or mistakes) that are common from rdjam with:
Quote:
All that being said, the killing blow may have been done by Microsoft who decided to bring to market a $200 HD DVD option for their Xbox 360 which has been in market a year longer than Sony and is projected to have a near 20x installed base advantage by year end (10M Xbox 360 to 600K PS3).
rdjam likes to use worldwide for one figure and US or NA for another without saying so to try to deceive people (or he isn't smart enough to know the difference). Here Rob Enderle used a figure for the XBOX360 that was a projection for shipped (not sold) worldwide and may have been using just US sold for the PS3.

Rob Enderle also said:
Quote:
Add to this that the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive is for movies only, so each one counts for movie viewing while PS3s may not be used to watch movies and you have a situation where the active movie player advantage by year-end should be between 4x and 6x better for HD DVD over Blu-Ray.
and
Quote:
Right now it appears impossible for Blu-Ray to gain a substantial lead on HD DVD, even after massive investment, they likely could only close the gap.
That was only 4 weeks from the start of 2007, where Blu-ray not only closed the gap, but has won every single week by Nielsen/Videoscan count this year. If the active movie player advantage was even in HD DVD's favor at the end of 2007 (let alone Rob Enderle's predicted 4x to 6x advantage) HD DVD would have probably been selling more software those weeks in the US, not less software every week. And I don't think the HD DVD camp can come up with even one place in the world where HD DVD software has outsold Blu-ray software so far this year.

I think Rob Enderle may have used a different article from rdjam as part of his basis for another article not too long ago. Those who have followed rdjam's posts probably understand why relying on him for your info is probably going to lead you to incorrect conclusions.

So, one question is whether Rob Enderle is ignorant enough to continue relying on rdjam even after how wrong it has led him in the past, or maybe Rob Enderle doesn't mind looking like a fool when people read his old predictions. I guess time and Rob Enderle's actions will tell.

A person considering themselves a top consultant and/or analyst relying on rdjam for information and direction would be funny, if it wasn't so sad.
