Im in the market for a new TV since my sharp Aquos broke and I wanted some feedback on these 2 tvs. If any of you own one of these please give me some info. I will mainly be using it to play videogames and BD movies on my PS3.

The Sony XBR4 seems to be a popular choice here.
I, on the other hand, will say for the price the Samsung 4071. After seeing this at Best Buy on a Samsung Blu endcap displaying Pirates 2 thought the picture was prestine. I couldn't believe how realistic it looked. It also has an adjustible setting on the 120hz allowing settings of low, medium and high (something the XBR4 does not have). Lastly, it has 25000:1 Contrast ratio. My suggestion is to go out and look at these two for comparison. If there is a Frys in your neighborhood, you may be able to get them to set up a Blu ray player on both sets to compare them. By the way, I will be picking up the Samsung 5271! im astounded by sony's picture quality but i have to say that samsung doesnt seem like its playing second fiddle, id just go with whichever was the cheaper (im betting its samsung) best thing to do though would be to look at a display of the two and decide on ur own, check to see if the settings are set to factory standard if they aren't hiding the remotes.

Thanx for the info guys but I actually went with the LN-T4069. It was a lil cheaper and it looks great. the 4071 was discontinued which i find a little weird since it just came out.

I recently bought the 46" version of the Samsung. It's a UK model so a different model number, but it looks like exactly the same TV. I got it in preference to the Sony because I wanted the gloss black finish on the frame rather than the Sony grey frame. I like the black bars to blend into the frame when watching 2.35:1 movies, so getting a TV with a grey surround was out of the question for me.
I'm very happy with it apart from that the picture looks a bit juddery in some panning shots when watching 24p material. It's definitely doing 24p, the movement is at a steady rate, it's just that the distance some parts of the picture move between each frame makes it look kind of juddery. The motion plus feature smooths this out nicely, but then it no longer looks like film, so I keep it turned off. There's no flicker in the picture, it's only the moving elements that look juddery. Other shots look silky smooth, I've yet to work out why some movement looks smooth and some looks juddery, but it seems high contrast vertical lines are most prone to looking juddery when panning horizontally. I suspect the way forward to avoid this sort of juddering is black frame insertion at a multiple of 24Hz, e.g. 96Hz showing each frame as black, frame, black, frame might get closer to a cinema look, though at the cinema the black frame duration would be much shorter than the frame duration so it still wouldn't quite be the same thing. I haven't seen the same material on other 24p sets to know if they exhibit the same juddery look in those particular shots. |

First of all, "Best Buy Guy" : Just because your computer says DISCONTINUED dose not mean its DISCONTINUED. It just means Best Buy isint selling it anymore (they went to the 81 series LED). Secondly that 71 series SMOKES the XBR4. ( 10 years Audio/Video experience, hooked up in my store side by side for a true test) Thirdly : Don't take Audio/Video advice from pocket clueless "experts" online who think they know what they are talking about because they bought one T.V. Lastly just another example why you never ever ever listen to the verbal diareha that comes from a Best Buy Guy. Unless your comfortable knowing that sometimes they "GUESS" right...sometimes...
