Totally agree, Goodfellas or Raging Bull should have got marty his Oscar not The Departed...but I love The Departed as well but I just feel it was a sympathy vote.

I would get Donnie Brasco over all those choices. The Departed is an okay movie but slightly overrated. Casino is very good though.

I laughed at the poll choices, where Casino says 'not james bond' beside it. Brilliant bit of comedy there!

The Departed is the best, but Casino was a great film, too.

The Departed is an awesome movie, but so is Casino. Casino puts De Niro and Pesci together in one of the greatest gangster movies of all time, but Jack in The Departed is a total Bad A$$. Both great movies by Scorsese, so good luck.

Casino. One other old school gangster movie is Goodfellas. Two of my favorite mafia movies.

Ok looks like you guy narrow it down to the departed. Can I add one more choice? No country for old men is selling for the same price. I search on IDMB because I have never seen it before either. They gave it 8.5 stars, and I think The Departed has the same. So which one do you guys recommend out of them two.
Casino is probably better, but Departed has the better transfer, if you have
good equipment I'd go Departed...

Casino.

Departed is a great movie, but the bottom line is that while it has Nicholson, the rest of the cast (Decaprio, Damon) dont stack up with Deniro, Pesci and Frank Vincent (the most natural mob actor ever IMO).

also, the art direction in Casino is A+ and it also has one of the greatest female performances I've ever seen in Sharon Stone.

Casino is the LOONNGGEESSTT movie! It drags on and on and has a poor ending.

The Departed is the movie you want no doubt. Best movie of 2007 and a great blu-ray BTW!!

I'd put THE DEPARTED #1

CASINO a close #2 (I give both movies the same rating of 4 out of 5 stars)

a very distant third AMERICAN GANGSTER (thought it was dull-- never
really got involved in the characters or the story)

Oh dear, please don't say the departed as it was a inferior movie to it's Hong Kong original Infernal Affairs trilogy which I feel is a Chinese Equivalent to the American's The Godfather... hence why it is not in my collection.

I tried watching it yet couldn't bring myself to finish the movie as it seems to be copied scene for scene almost and the emotions displayed were not played out nicely as it was in infernal affairs. I know I'll be flamed for this one but I am entitled to freedom of speech...Just my opinion!

But of the 3 movies that were mentioned, I liked Casino the best as it was a very classy De niro/Scorsese movie. I liked it better then American Gangster as American Gangster had some slow parts but is still one of my favorite mob movies.

I might be biased on my opinion of the Departed, and I admit this LOL. But i highly recommend the Infernal Affairs Trilogy if one has not yet seen it. If it wasn't for the price atm 70+ as it is an import, it would already be in my collection...

The Departed. I consider it a bit overrated but it's still a very good film and better than the other two.

Casino and the Departed are both excellent films, in my opinion.

That said, if I only had to pick one, it would be Casino. The combination of De Niro and Pesci is money. Not to mention, it's based off the story of Sam 'Ace' Rothstein. To me, that pretty much seals the deal.
