Default Just bought a boat. Ahhhh!

I picked up a boat with trailer and motor for $500 from a person in town. Drove it down to my parents to test the motor, and long story short, the motor is KIA. Really bums me out that the engine went out on me, but it wasn't ran for two years and the thing while in good condition, was ancient.

Where would I look for an outboard motor preferably 25hp? Ugh, didn't want to spend a lot of money on this, but here I am!

Here is the boat in question.

Congrats on the purchase. Good luck getting it up to par! I have no idea about boats and trailers other than getting my customers titled and registered.

My father gave me his little sail boat (i'm not sure if it would still float). But i'll have to clean it up and take it out next summer.

Thanks!

So I may end up having to purchase a brand new motor, but luckily my dad is letting me borrow his as he isn't going to put his boat in the water this year. What's great about this boat is that it was made in 1956! Still looks in remarkable shape, imo.

If you have the time, hold off buying a new motor. They are expensive and if you can pick up a good used one, you can save lots of $$$. A good time to go looking is in the fall, people are looking to get rid of their boats and you might get a good deal. I picked up a 70 hp motor for $400 and a year later got a very nice trailer for my boat for $250. This year I'm probably going to update my trolling motor to a newer model.

Awesome!

This was the info I was looking for. New motors run about $100 per hp, so this would save me tons of coin.

OP you have a boat in south dakota
where do you go, to the pond or down the river?

i dont have a boat but my buddies to.
we hop on it maybe 4-5 times a year but im in south florida.
we just sail into the ocean, catch some fish (i couldnt tell you wehat kind as i dont care for fishing......im there to jam music & drink) and cook them when we dock.

i really want a boat just to ride up and down the intercoastal in ft lauderdale and stop at all the bars every saturday afternoon.

anyway.....boat looks good for being from the 50's
congrats and take some pics with you on the "naughty hooker" lol
