Being Human: Season One Blu-ray Review

They finally announced a date for series one. One of the best horror series I have ever seen this will be a day 1 buy.

Quote:
Being Human is a comedy-drama series about three twenty-something housemates trying to live normal lives...
They face a human threat in the form of the mysterious Professor Jaggat and the cold-hearted Kemp. Jaggat and Kemp are fundamentalist Christians who have discovered the existence of vampires, werewolves and ghosts - and are determined to destroy them or carry out brutal experiments upon them. They believe that vampires are the Devil incarnate and must be destroyed; that werewolves contain an evil gene that can be removed by violent scientific experiments; and that ghosts must be forced over to the other side whether they like it or not.
Oyyyy ...I'd been wanting to see the series, but just from the description, would I be right in dreading "British HBO-style gay allegory" from ten miles off?
(checking IMDb to see if the Torchwood/Doctor Who producer is involved)

...Please tell me I'm wrong.

Yep you are wrong all the characters are straight. Except the actor who plays George is gay in real life but in the show he plays a straight character.

I don't remember much since it's been awhile but
[Show spoiler]Mitchell was going to go and try to kill Herrick on his own but George went instead and ended up killing Herrick by ripping his head off I think.
A lot more happened but that's the gist of it. Haven't seen the first series in quiet awhile.

Wasn't what I was referring to--
Meant, are we going to have so many constant nudges that our Van Helsing characters just happen to be fundamentalist loonies who want to "cure" our misunderstood outcasts with Faith and Science, that it's going to end up as "True Blood" with East End accents?

Oh sorry about that then. Yeah that's what it's about then pretty much about then. Only in season 2 though so it's still worth watching.

Default pilot will NOT be included on this release

Quote:
We reported at the time that "all six episodes" of the first season will be included, and fans asked whether that count was correct, since adding the pilot to the regular season episodes brings the count to "seven". Some fans also questioned whether the original broadcast music would be included, since overseas releases had some changes to that. We submitted those questions to our contacts at the BBC,and they've confirmed that the pilot will NOT be included on this release (no reason was provided). Our contact is still looking into the official answer to the music situation, but frankly we're anticipating that there will turn out to be alterations in the soundtrack. If we find out differently we'll let you know!
this is stupid to not include the pilot

Default Being Human season U.S. series

Wanted to buy BBC series way before U.S. series began. BBC isn't like U.S. tv, they will air shows containg language, nudity, blood, etc. In U.S . you have to subscribe to certain channels. Having these things aren't necessary but we' re talking vampires and werewolves. What stopped me from buying the BBC series was no pilot episode. I read it provides more character development and more storyline. I do think the U.S. series is great and the cast is perfect.

This thread is confusing the crap out of me.

Just want to clarify, The season one set of the original UK version did not include it's pilot. It did that because the pilot aired a year earlier with a different actress playing Annie the ghost in a completely different way. They also set up storylines that were not followed once the series began it's first 6 episode run. Watching the pilot is completely unnecessary in enjoying the first series.

And to the person saying that the previous seasons are dirty cheap, please point me to where legitimate copies are for cheap?

I'm not that person but on amazon.co.uk, seasons 1 & 2 are not that expensive, first season is 6,99 pouds and de second is 9,99 pounds. First 2 seasons in one box is 15,99 pounds.

Has there been confirmation that all 3 seasons of the UK release are region free? I've seen people say that seasons 1 and 2 are and I'd assume season 3 is as well, but since every listing I've seen states Region 2, I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not sure, just checked my copies, does say nothing about a region B or so, no mention of it.

Now I'm thinking they may be region free, but are encoded at 1080i50 (which the PS3 will not deal with). I would've loved to order the UK versions since they are way cheaper than the US versions. The insane pricing of the US sets have kept me from picking these up...

Annie wasn't the only difference, Mitchell and Herrick were played by different actors as well. Plus the original pilot had a more gothic mood, look and style to it.

Region-free, but unplayable for most Americans. The video is in that dreaded 1080i/50 Hz standard, which many American players and displays can't handle.
