^Goldman spreading FUD^

He just shrugged of his error of Warner being HD DVD exclusive. That's quite a big deal and an even larger error.

At least he responded.

Yes he did...

First things first: yes, I should've included that Time Warner is not exclusively an HD DVD partner; that the company swings both ways. That was unfortunate. I give you that one. Concession noted.

This is why you formulate a good argument with empirical evidence instead of getting into a shouting match out of pure enthusiasm.

He can't say anything bad about HD DVD fans, either, since they have probably been praising the article.

How many of you are surprised by this. The man works for CNBC which is owned by Universal. Of course he is full of it.

He really did not say anything. I was not sure at some points when he was talking or when he was quoting someone.

This guy is not the smartest one on the block...

'Pete Sullivan, Robert Barbier, "Mark" and "Jhomen" alerted me to the forum thread on the Blu-ray site showing how Blu-ray fans can cheat the poll results and skew the news toward Blu-ray'

That is why it is not a scientific poll. This is NOT uncommon for fans to click that little button a zillion times, you see this in all polls on a verity of subjects from Dems vs GOP, Mac vs PC, Captain Kirk vs Captain Picard & soo on.

True and HD DVD fans were doing the same thing at AVS were doing the same thing. That's why it's important for everyone here to not get caught up and do things like that. We get called on it while they didn't.

People just take these things too seriously. It provides more ammunition. Unfortunately, those unfamiliar with both formats will not think so highly of those on the Blu-camp after reading this article.

I do have to say this, though: remember that the HD DVD crowd is monitoring our posts, and I was a bit embarrassed when he brought up the "cheat" for the survey. Granted, I'm sure there were just as many on the HD DVD side that were taking advantage of it, but we were out here posting it, which only makes us look bad, and also negating the survey, regardless of the results.

It's been said before, but apparently bares repeating: PLEASE ACT PROFESSIONALLY AND KEEP IN MIND THAT THE WORLD IS WATCHING!

We owe that to someone stupidly saying that by deleting your cookies you could vote over and over again.

If someone can find the same thing at AVS or elsewhere for HD DVD, please let him know so he can correct that this was done on both sides (as it probably was, it's common knowledge for people obsessed with online polls, but thanks to someone posting this now he has "evidence" for Blu Ray.com members doing this)

Hey, I got my e-mail quoted his response. I was the one who wrote about it being one of the most uninformed articles in the past 12 months.

He calls me out by name saying "that's the best I've got..." singling out two throwaway lines rather than mentioning my numerous legitimate points.

To reiterate, I sent him the following:

Sir,

Your article of 11/1/07 is full of misrepresentations and omissions. You fail to mention that Blu-ray players offer buyers five free Blu-ray movies with purchase. You mention a 60% rate of PS3 owners who are unaware that their machine is capable of playing Blu-ray movie discs. In fairness, I would like for you to research how many XBOX 360 owners are aware than an HD DVD add-on is available for their system. The 190,000 units sold of Transformers on HD DVD has been proven to be a falsehood (see http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...at-stupid-lie/ and ). You also fail to include Warner Bros.' neutrality stance in the format war, making it sound as if they support HD DVD only, and you fail to mention that the Harry Potter films will be releases simultaneously on Blu-ray. In fact, Warner Bros. VP for high-definition media recently stated that "We are committed to the [Blu-ray] format (see http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...Strategy/1123). You also fail to mention that Toshiba is the sole manufacturer of HD DVD players, whereas major name brand companies such as Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung (who makes dual-format players), and Sharp make stand-alone Blu-ray players exclusively. Blu-ray is also backed by computer giants Apple and Dell. Your article is unfair and biased. In the interest of fairness, I will point out that I am a Blu-ray only supporter and works for www.blu-ray.com as a disc reviewer. However, everything I have pointed out to you is truth and I urge you to amend your article to make it more complete and factual.

---------

Sir,

I see you still have not amended your article to be more fair and accurate. To add to your list of mistakes, perhaps you should note that the rumors of KMart being HD DVD (and it IS written "HD DVD," and NOT "HD-DVD" as you have written in your article. How on Earth did you get this job?) exclusive are now FALSE. See http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...re_Purple/1137. Perhaps you could also go ahead and mention that Steven Spielberg, who has many, many films in the Paramount and Universal archive, is stridently pro-Blu-ray and will not allow his films to be released on HD DVD. I strongly urge you to amend your article to be more fair and accurate to save face for yourself, CNBC, and HD DVD.

----------
And just now:

-----------

"Martin Liebman wrote in, TWICE, asking how I got my job, referring to "HD-DVD" instead of a hyphen-less HD DVD. Come on! Is that the best you got?"

Nice to see you mention the MANY legitimate points I made, rather than singling out the least of your problems. Thanks for the update, though. I'm glad you got called out for your many, many blatant mistakes by others, and not just me. I stand by everything I said including wondering how you are employed in this field after printing such an egregiously misinformed article.

The biggest spin is making the sub-$100 HD-DVD player firesale a "news" story without giving the "why" behind it. Dumping tens of thousands of discontinued players that have been sitting unsold for up to a year at below cost prices is not being dominate nor is it good business. Saying that is shows the bias of the article and its author.

Well he mentioned Warner, I guess...

...though it was the biggest DUH moment in the original piece. It was very nice of him to make it sound like all I sent him was two throwaway lines. I guess I got under his skin.

Let's just take our licks and leave it at that. We're not going to be able to win this one. He may be biased/unintelligible but he knows how to spin it in his favor. Thats how he got the job in the first place.
