Questions from article:

1 Does the ps2 really outsell the ps3 still?
2.Is this guy freaking blind to think tha the inferior format (he says blu) is winning? Sound Better, PQ better? What the hell?

Because just like that original format war, when an inferior technology beat out the other, it's happening again.

The ps2 does indeed outsell the ps3. But this is the first month since launch that ps3 has beaten the ps2 (in North America). Infact, it nearly beat the whole market.

As of January the PS2 does not outsell the PS3 anymore.

The mantra of digital downloads will be chanted high and wide from here out. It's where all computer manufacturers truly want the energy and people like Microsoft have the 'spin' routine down to a science that they can exploit to try and convince people that there's even a chance of it happening any time soon.

Reality?

Digital downloading won't be a viable alternative until well after 2015 or so. Internet infrastructure can not support it at all. Not even remotely. Even if every household had access to their own personal OC3 fiber backbone, it could not be done within our current system. Our entire internet would have to be restructured for the greater capacity and significantly expanded.

Don't count on it for high def anything for a very long time.

In prior posts he doesn't hide the fact that nbc is owned by universal and that his opinion is biased.

It is CNBC, subsidiary of NBC/Universal. This guy will change his tune once movies are released by Universal on Blu. "It turns out these movies use codecs and depending on how they were prepared impacts quality. After closer review it is obvious that Blu-ray offers superior picture and audio quality".

Where is this guy getting his facts??? OMG!

Is this guy comparing like for like titles or comparing the Superman Returns HD-DVD with Dracula Blu-Ray??!

It's nonsense like this that confuses your average Joe whoe then simply continues to buy DVDs and hopes they upscale well on his/her new £2000 HDTV!

I can't wait until Toshiba announce their first BD player and we can all move beyond the error that was HD-DVD!

I just responded to the email address for the article which is:

TechCheck@cnbc.com

This is how I responded:

"How can Jim Goldman think that his comparison of Blu-ray and Hd-dvd on an Samsung combo machine is a good way to judge the quality differences between the two formats? Is he really that stupid? Or is he a paid shill for Microsoft and/or Toshiba?

Goldman should talk to Hollywood insiders like Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and others who know what they are talking about. Blu-ray, on a good machine, outperforms Hd-dvd in both picture quality and audio quality. The PROS in the tech industry know this too.

Furthermore, Goldman should read a couple of articles by knowledgeable people as to why there isn't really any such thing as HD downloads. It's a myth due to bandwidth restrictions. So-called HD downloads have horrible compression problems. It doesn't matter if the result is a 1080p signal, if too much of the data was lost in the process."

We really need to get some of our experts on this forum to email Goldman with better facts.

Bad article. This guy is admittedly biased and thinks HD DVDs look and sound better. Once again he has had little or no exposure to true BD technology.
He also buys into the thought that downloads are ready to take over even though all the analysts say that downloads will not replace disc sales at all.

I think this guy may have just tanked his career with this article.

Talk about bad timing.

It truly shows he knows absolutely nothing about technology and how it works. Particularly, even basic things such as storage space and bandwidth.

I could forgive him on the subtle differences between VC-1 and AVC and the associated bitrate depths of each; however, this is just too much.

He has affirmed to the world that he knows nothing about his job.
