I own a 37" LCD Vizio for the main room and a 32" for the bedroom. If this is your first HDTV you will be pleasantly surprised at the size and quality for the price. As far as the TV displaying the deepest blacks, 120Hz refresh, etc. well the Vizio line of TV's are lacking.

Bottom line, a great starter HDTV, but not appropriate for the true AV enthusiast. I plan to upgrade to the Sony XBR4 shortly and I purchased my Vizio at Costco so that I can return within 90 days!

I have a 47 inch visio 1080p LCD that I got as a refurb off amazon. I love it and have had no problems so far. Picture looks great on my ps3 and I also own over 20 blu rays which look great on it also.

if your vizio is dead in 2 years who will fix it? not vizio, you have to buy a box and then ship it to the factory and after all is said and done if you spend less then 100$ you can buy a new one and just toss the old one in the trash

Along with that, most Vizio (and Westinghouse and all the other off brands) don't actually do 1080p. They're actually 540p that's linedoubled so they can cheap out on the display hardware.

I've had a 50 inch Vizio Plasma for about a year now. It was great for a budget plasma initially. I generally wouldn't by a relatively unknown manufacturer (back then it was) except the fact I got a recommendation from an owner and I bought it from Costco before the change in the return policy.

I'm starting to get some major sparklies. Not noticiably from afar, but you can't miss it close up. With that said, I am planning on switching to something else.

Any advice, plasma or lcd? I stayed away from lcd's initially due to image retention (the trailing fading with fast moving objects) and the max size of 37". I've read that the image retention has been vastly improved with the newer lcd's and they now come larger than 37".

If I go plasma, I'd go with a panny, but what lcd's are good at a reasonable price?

I've never heard that. I have been researching for some time now, using CNET, and have never heard them mention it. Normally Visio gets pretty good ratings. I wouldn't buy a Westinghouse though, I think their images look like crap. I really want the 46"XBR4. Gotta save though.
Maybe I should stop buying so many blu-ray's and use the savings to buy my tv.

Default Vizio's are nice

I've sold a few, and people seem to like them, I have yet to get one returned or hear negative feedback on them. If your in the market for a nice TV at a low cost go with a Vizio. You can't compare them to Sony or Samsung technology, but then again, your paying about 1/3 less and still getting a nice picture. I know many might think this sounds weird, but I rather sell a Vizio or sometimes even a Sylvania over an LG, LG has so many issues and (no joke) 3/5 likely get returned or complained about.

Why do you think they're so much cheaper?

I should amend that statement. Any 1080i signal is only displayed at 540p because it doesn't contain a proper de-interlacer and it throws out the lines.

They also have terrible contrast levels, motion estimation software and other things that make a flat panel look good

Let me put it this way. I've saved for 3 years for my new TV to make sure I can afford one that I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with

I agree with you that LG products are at best a half step above. Really the only advantage is that you're getting a company that will actually support its products past the minimum to avoid class action lawsuits.

I was referring more to the trailer effect for LCDs. I hear it can be a distraction if you are watching sporting events.

I have a Vizio 32' HDTV and I'm very satisfied. But eventually I will purchase a 1080p Sony.
