My brand new receiver is making hissing noise. As I turn up the volume, the hissing noise gets louder. Is this normal?
My system: Pioneer KRP-500m Integra DTR 50.1 Sony PS3 Slim B&W CM9 (Front L/R) B&W CMC2 (Centre) Wiring: RCA 16AWG speaker wires from Lowes Last edited by Solaris; 04-27-2010 at 10:06 PM. |

There should be no noise coming from the AV receiver itself unless it has a fan. If there is, something is wrong with the receiver. Do you mean the receiver is generating a hiss that is coming from the speakers? This might happen if you have the audio turned up high with no input signal. If it happens when you have the audio at normal listening levels, once again there could be a problem with the receiver.
Does it happen on all inputs that you have something connected to? |

Most probably, it is the radio frequency interference. Your wires can act like an antenna and pick up noise. Read the https://forum.blu-ray.com/home-theat...isolators.html thread. It may help.

there is almost always a tiny amout of "hiss" coming from your speaker, most of the time you have to put your ear to within 10" or less to hear it and it's very faint, kinda like an open mic. however if your saying that when your 4 - 8' away from your speakers you can hear a hissing sound then that isn't right. while i think your unit is fine, check this out: i think our setup option menus are the same (or pretty close) let me ask you a question, on your DTR-50.1, if you go into the setup, then into the audio adjustments, then into audyssey, once in that sub menu, is the option for "Dynamic EQ" on? if it is, turn it off then hit setup button to get out of the setup and see if your "hiss is gone. Dynamic EQ gets turned on during the Audyssey calibration process; it's not on by default, unless you manually turn it on it's off until doing the calibration with Audyssey. you won't notice the hiss during movie or tv playback at a good volume but if nothing is on and your house is quite, you will notice it. when it's turned off, you will notice that it's quiter than when it's turned on. i suspect that this is what you are experiencing. it took me a while to determine what was causing that hissing noise from my speakers that wasn't there the day before, it was because i hadn't done the calibration for a while and the option was off. i stumbled into that option and tuned it off and that's how i found it out. please get back to me on this in case i'm not right; but i think i am. if the itegra/onkyo line follow certain features together, then this is the culprit.
mind you i turned it back on because it makes everything sound so much better especially movies, well, everything (read up on what it does in the manual) and I can't/won't do without it. but if this is the case for you initially you are wondering, "what is that hissing noise" after a day or so, trust me, you won't notice it, but if you turn it off you will notice the performance hit your movies get, especially at low volumes. hope this helps, please keep us posted. ![]() Last edited by solarrdadd; 04-28-2010 at 02:02 AM. |
