All know that Blu-ray is clearly going to outsell HD-DVD in Q4 this year, mainly because of better studio support and alot of good exclusive titles like Pirates, Ratatouille, The Simpsons Movie and so on.....
But how is Q1+Q2 2008 going to look for Blu-ray and HD-DVD?? Which movies are shown in cinemas now and which will be out exclusively on Blu-ray and HD-DVD? |

Good Question... "We Own the Night" is Sony, so Blu. "American Gangster" is Universal, so hd dvd (yuck)... Those are just two off the top of my head... oh, just thought of another (which did VERY well at the box office) "Game Plan" is Disney.
Overall, I think we have better movies... it will be interesting to see releases scheduled for next year. |

Resident Evil Extinction, War, Shoot 'Em Up, Sunshine, and 3:10 to Yuma all come out in the first week next year. I will be broke as will many others but it will start the year off well for Bluray! Especially since most of those are Blu exclusives!!!

Following are estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theatres, according to Media By Numbers LLC:
1. American Gangster, $46.3 million. 2. Bee Movie, $39.1 million. 3. Saw IV, $11 million. 4. Dan in Real Life, $8.1 million. 5. 30 Days of Night, $4 million. 6. The Game Plan, $3.85 million. 7. Martian Child, $3.65 million. 8. Michael Clayton, $2.9 million. 9. Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?, $2.7 million. 10. Gone Baby Gone, $2.4 million. The Game Plan is a Disney movie and it is still doing very well at the box office, just think how well it will sell on Bu-ray! |

Also, some of the movies that haven't been released yet.
The Golden Compass- Newline so probably on Blu first Beowulf- Paramount HD DVD only, but animation geared toward adults alone never does well at the box office in the US. I am Legend- WB both Enchanted - Disney Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium -FOX - not sure if this is going to be any good. The Mist -Weinstein - Possibly Neither- This is the one that I am most looking forward to. Fred Claus- WB, but since this is a Christmas movie, I suspect they will delay the release of this movie on video until 4th quarter next year, as Disney did with Santa Clause 3. Anybody else have anything to add? |

Oh well, looks good for Blu-ray. But also good for HD-DVD. Amarican Gangster is Universal Pictures... Bee Movie is Dreamworks, is Dreamworks Blu-ray or HD-DVD supporters?

Bee Movie
Saw IV American Gangster I cold go on but really.. a lot of the BD movie have bad ratings, and so do the HD-DVDs, but some are getting good ratings... I can't tell which will sell better based on this, but I can say I prolly won't see BEE movie anytime soon. Also rottentomatoes has decided to be HD-DVD exclusive... they don't review BD movies, only HD-DVD movies.. |

Well, that's not so good. But I think Ratatouille, Spiderman, Die Hard 4 and Cars is going to make a major impact on HD-DVD, big enough to make these two movies fall in popularity.

Dan in real life is distributed by BVHE here but Focus over seas...so it should be Blu in the states.
AVP Requiem going back to the roots is Blu. Rendition is New Line, Blu. Darjeeling Limited, Blu Across The Universe, Blu The Mist is MGM, so its Blu (not sure where a previous poster got Weinstein) Enchanted, Blu The Golden Compass, New Line, Blu Gone, Baby Gone, Blu No Country for Old Men, Blu Hitman, Blu (btw, i think this has the makings of a SPECIAL set of movies if anyone has seen the new TV spots...it looks well done and could take off like the Bourne movies, IMO) Trust me, when i say that the software onslaught will just NOT stop anytime soon...... |

IMDB lists The Mist as Theatrical in US (as was Hallween 2007) for MGM, but Weinstein is theatrical outside of the US which would lead me to believe that they own the video releasing rights in the US (as with Halloween 2007), even though IMDB doesn't list who owns the rights in the US. 1408 was also MGM theatrical in the US, but Weinstein has the video rights in the US. I don't think The Mist would be any different. Perhaps they will be releasing BD by the time it comes out on video, but I won't hold my breath. |
