Sony Pictures A Single Man (2009)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of A Single Man on 6th July 2010. A Single Man is based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor (Colin Firth) who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner. The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and, ultimately, the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.

Priced at $27.96 SRP on DVD and $34.95 SRP on Blu-ray Disc, features include:
English 5.1
English subtitles
Commentary with Producer/Director Tom Ford
The Making of A Single Man

Very excited to see this, for a while there I thought the film was forgotten for a DVD/BD release. I have to say that the cover could be a little bit better. It isn't too bad though. The poster artwork was better. It is nice we get a commentary track. Day one purchase.

Need to pick this up. The movie is a visual delight to watch. You get drunk in the colors and acting.

Would like to know this too. Normally I'd just get the US disc since Sony is usually as good as it gets, but I'd like to know the stats for the Icon disc, and if it's at least as good, since the difference in price is so big.

Icon has some really good discs even when they're doing their own encodes, but then I think they have a few 1080i50 bummers as well.

Thanks for the reminder. I remember seeing the listings for that price in the past but forgot due to getting some other BDs.

Very true, but about as boring as watching paint dry.

not for everyone. Loved the pace its one of those introspective quite movies. Great performances and set design and decoration... and of course the clothes, which would be shocking if the clothes were bad directed by Tom Ford.

It's a great film and it's on my radar again since it's on Netflix, so I've been meaning to pop in my BD and give it another watch.

But is this film the kind that appeals to you, anyway?

And I don't mean the homosexuality, I mean the aesthetics themselves. I've been perusing your collection, and it doesn't seem (hey, I might have missed a few) like A Single Man was something that called out to you as something interesting or worth watching.

The fact that you attempted to watch it speaks to your willingness to branch out, either way.

I used to rent BDs all the time when I had more free time. This happened to be one I rented.
