Fanboys coming July 27, 2010 - Blu-ray Forum

Now that Fanboys have finally been released theatrically and is expanding into additional venues on a weekly basis, the inevitable question of its imminent release on Blu-ray Disc looms.

The latest intel points towards Fanboys findings its way to DVD and Blu-ray Disc on May 19. This date is not confirmed by the studio but hopefully will be in the coming days.

Fanboys is being distributed on home video by Wellspring and Genius Products so a safe bet is to anticipate a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio and a 1080p transfer on Blu-ray.

We'll pass along additional Fanboys on Blu-ray news as it develops. In the meantime, you can check out a placeholder at Amazon.com where an eventual pre-order option will appear

Wish this movie would come to Canada already. Will be blind buying this movie on Blu day one if it doesn't though.

Will if the theatrical release is any sign of when we'll get the video release, I'd actually expect to wait about 2 years....

To add a little bit of validity to this rumor - I Pre-ordered Fanboys from Amazon last year when it first showed up, later I recieved an e-mail saying the Distributor canceled the item but just this morning I got another e-mail from Amazon saying the Blu-ray would be shipping out the end of May and that the estimated arrival date would be June 2nd - 8th. Sadly when I go to Amazon's website it still just has the "Click here to be notified" button with no Release Date info.

The sooner the better since they absolutely botched the theatrical release. Barely in anybody's cities at all.

I was hoping for a direct to Blu-Ray release, like it was originally planned to be last year... So when the release day came around, I walked into Blockbuster to rent it... only for them to say that it's in select AMERICAN theatres!

Boo! You think they'd at least open up in 3 theatres in Canada: Toronto, Winnipeg ( best place to market new items ), Vancouver.

According to the films MySpace Blog they are asking people to e-mail the Weinstein Company to request the movie be released in more cities. So, it can't hurt to send them one requesting Canada.

By the way, the movie is awesome.

Sony is now distributing Weinstein Company titles on Blu-ray Disc and DVD so this could be the first of the "recent" Weinstein titles that was DVD only (in the US) to be released on BD. Wonder if the packaging for the Fanboys DVD will be altered to reflect Sony.

A friend recommended the DVD to me and of course being a Star Wars fan I really liked it.

I was considering importing this from Canada, but now it looks like I'll be holding off and getting the US version. I hope those bonus features really are on the US release. The release from Canada is bare bones.
