What sources do you intend to scale with the Gefen and what display/projector are you using?

I intend to you the gefen scaler on my Direct TV to improve the PQ of the SD channels, plus from everythng I have read Plasma's do better with a progressive signal vs. an interlaced. I have a samsung 50" 1080p plasma. Any experaince with the Gefen scalers is more than welcome, I am having a hard i am finding reviews on it.

I've seen the output from a Gefen scaler but I may not have seen the output from your particular Samsung so I can't definitively say it will be better or not unfortunately.

What you've heard isn't always correct.

Your Samsung and almost all modern displays, will have some sort of scaler and deinterlacer in it.

The question is "Is the built-in scaler/deinterlacer good enough".

One thing that Gefen will offer you is more adjustments than what's in your display.

Thank you for the info. The scaler on the samsung is not so good for 480i/480p. so anything would be an improvement.
