Default Seating change help

Hello all. I'm looking to change up the seating in my theater and I'm wondering about seating but more specifically, where the seats are placed. I have a very narrow theater, little less then 11' wide. My viewing distance is exactly 12' from a 92" screen. I have b&w speakers, 683 towers, 61 center and ds3 surrounds with 2 12" klipsch rw12d subs. Right now I have a couch in the theater but am thinking about two recliners in place of the couch. What I'm wondering and why I listed my speakers is, if I get two recliners will I ruin my sound experience? Right now I sit strait on center but obviously wont be able to if I get two recliners. Any insight on this would be much appreciated.

Our rooms sound similar (my basement is 10' wide) and I have a projector with a throw of about 13' onto a 92" screen as well. I used to have a couch front and center and just got 2 recliners and a console between them, along with a new couch that runs along the left wall. The recliners are now a bit to the left of the room. I would say the one recliner on the right is now center and the left one is further to the left. As far as the one person sitting in the sweet spot (which is my recliner, the one on the right) that is fine. However, the sound in the left recliner will not be quite as good as the other location. Luckily my wife sits there and could care less about the "sweet spot," so I am good to go. But if you are wondering about the AQ for the recliner on the left (furthest off center), it will be effected, but I would say only marginally.

IMO, the biggest impact will be with the surround sound in that location. It will naturally be stronger with the left surrounds than the rights for that location (this is if you made the right recliner front and center). You could try to run your calibration set-up with the mic in between the 2 seats and that may help to balance the 2 seats in comparison, but ultimately the overall sound will not be as good as if you were front and center with both seats. There are sacrifices we all have to make, and mine was to the left recliner.

If you had to choose between making the right recliner front and center with the left recliner further to the left and balancing your audio based on the right recliner versus balancing everything with the middle between the two recliners as center, I personally would go with making the right recliner front and center, so at least one spot has the same AQ as you had when the couch was there and front and center.

Luckily for me, my wife doesn't care about the best AQ, just good AQ. So my decision was easy to make.

Also, do you have an SPL meter and how many subs do you have?

It shouldn't mess up your sound experience to be off center a foot or so either direction. If it does, maybe you would need to adjust the toe-in on your mains to open up the field a bit.

Easiest way to test it is to sit off center on the couch. You may have to move it a foot or two one direction to get the seat where your recliner would be, but then sit there and take a listen. I wouldn't expect it to affect your experience to the point of not going with new seating. I'm looking to do the same thing in my HT. My current couch has reclining pieces on the ends (and the middle does not recline), so I sit off to the left of center now. It will be the same when I get my theater seats. I don't notice a significant difference in the sound.

I should note that it might not be a bad idea for you to run your auto-cal program if you go with new seating as well. By the way, you've got some nice gear - you should put some pics in your gallery.

I suppose I could just put one right on center and move them both to be even if I'm going to have someone else watch a movie with me.

I'm too lazy for that. As I stated above, as long as I am in the sweet spot, life is good!

You can check out my gallery if it helps with the explanation of how my seats are set-up. Again, it is all about sacrifices of some kind and we all have to work withthe limitations of our own rooms. Luckily the final decision is yours!

Be careful though, as his pics are now more than 18 hours old and should be considered "outdated".

LOL!!!! The only thing that will be changing right now is what is on the walls. At least that means I don't have to re-run MCACC again.

I did right away and I think its going to be what I do. I just called one of my local appliance store to see what they have for deals and price matching so I think I'll be ordering soon.

I will have pics hopefully soon but will wait till the chairs are in the room.

is the seating along a wall? A row of 3 home theater seats could be an option for you..

Yes I do. I have no issues with the results. I actually use advanced MCACC and my SPL meter as well, as I love to tweak my settings as much as possible.

Good luck with the seating, and I hope it all works out for you!

My room is 10' wide i put 2 rows of love seats and i love it, this was the best option for my room, i am 11' from my 100" screen, i still have to upload images, but you can see how the room looks with love seats.

i have 2 chairs. my seat is dead center. as was said, my wife sits in the other, and is not nearly as critical as i am, she is fine with it. besides, i paid for this stuff, so i set it up how i want.

as far as surround sq goes. honestly, there is not a bad spot in the room.
bi/di-poles are awesome ! i wouldn't have anything else, set up any other way.

12x19x8 room.

I just ordered a pair of black leather lazy-boy recliners. I'll have them in 12 days and hopefully pictures up in a few weeks. I will probably shift them to one side so my seat can me strait on, but if anyone were to come over for a movie I would put them even as they are very light and easy to move. Cant wait to get them, thanks for all the suggestions and help!
