Default Taking HT seating in a new direction

I've been using a black leather loveseat that I bought about 12 years ago and it has survived six moves and countless beverage spills and other mishaps. It's grungy and not as supportive of my lower back as it was when I bought it. I've been thinking about replacing it for a while now, but it took me a long time to figure out what direction to take. Don't laugh (this will actually fit in well in my room) but here's what I decided to get.

Part of the reason for getting this is because it lets me get away with a 90+ inch sofa while the backrest is not that long and will not get in the way of my rear wall-mounted surrounds that are actually bookshelf-size width and height, and at ear level. The other issue is my HT space. It's a tiny room. The speakers and most of the components are black. It just felt cramped before. I ordered the sofa in all white, like my carpet to really open up the room and make it feel bigger and more fun to hang out in. Also, the leather gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. It's uncomfortable. The new sofa is a microfiber material that I think I will like more.

Most HT furniture has an emphasis on armrests and separation from other seats that I find inhibiting and uncomfortable. I like to be able to change positions while I'm watching a long film, and with no armrests and the addition of a good throw pillow or two, this sofa will let me do that. But yeah, just from this photo it does look a bit odd, especially for HT, so I'm expecting some "why would anyone buy that" comments. Too late now--I have been eyeing this for months and it finally was marked down several hundred $$ for the holiday sale. This baby is on its way.

No wonder I haven't seen the Michelin Man lately, he's been killed to make your new couches.

Heehee, funny comments.

It's 30" high, so that's plenty.

Looks like something, one of my drunk friends would break Plus it looks like expensive art furniture...

I wouldn't mind seeing it in your HT room, to see how it flows with everything.

Surely not something I would get, I love armrests and high backs.

How comfortable is it. I'm in the design redesign phase of my theater and thinking not trying something different for the seating. It's hard to beat the comfort level of good leather recliners though.

It's pretty firm...which I like because my lower back is tweaky. But if you like cushioning that you can melt into, this isn't for you.

After it's all set up I'll definitely add some photos to my gallery. (Re: the existing photos, I installed that 50" plasma all by myself which may help explain my bad back.)

Dood..... if you like the sofa..... go for it!

One thing to consider though with furniture actually designed for a HT, is that many actually consider resonance in their design. First thing I noticed when I watched a movie on my new HT furniture is how the low frequencies seemed to "flow" through the furniture.

Yeah, and I miss out on the beverage holder in the armrest.

My sub shakes the entire room on some passages of BDs...I am sure the the sofa will catch the vibrations.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about that. I do have killer carpet spot remover that has saved my butt many times for clothes and carpet. I'm sure it will work on the sofa.

You should consider changing the placement of your rear speakers, if possible. While the front speakers should be at ear level, the rears should be 2-3 feet above ear level.

Gremal, very out of the box seating. If you've tested it out, I say go for it. Me personally, I like corners, so if I got something like that, it'd have to be an L shape or something. I tend to like the feeling of couch around me, not just on my back if you get me.

Again, very out of the box. Enjoy!

Yeah, I think the right throw pillow will be just as good. Better even--cuz I can move it depending on my position.
